AOC. It’s becoming a cult, quick.

If the dems try and go the way of the left 2020 is for Trump.

I wanted to start a new party that brings people that feel the “party” system is too tribal and start something that is grounded in reason.

I imagine there are many democrats and republicans that are disillusioned by the mainstream of each party.

Only because the GOP decided she deserved a bunch of flack for something stupid. If they had just shut it for a few days, her whole election story would have been "youngest woman ever elected" blah blah who cares.

It's the same thing whenever some stupid church group declares some album "unsuitable" and so on.

I think you guys are missing the point of AOC. Joe Crowley was a good Democrat in Nancy's army, but AOC beat him in the primary because she is a democratic socialist. People are fed up with the status quo. AOC's constituents elected her to bring about radical change. They want her to drive policy like a speeding freight train, not to settle for being just another foot soldier settling for small, incremental changes.

I watched her in an interview that lasted over 20 minutes yesterday and she was brilliant. She is highly intelligent and an excellent communicator. I think she is just what this country is desperately in need of, and I think she will do fine.

Democrats being disillusioned by the mainstream of their party is how the party finally started trending leftward. You're right that there are a ton of Republicans who are losing faith in Trump's party, but Democrats are finally starting to invigorate their base. The problem isn't parties, or tribalism, or partisanship, though. The problem is moderates. The middle continuously moves to the left, so it isn't the right that's the problem. It's the fence-sitting moderates, whose very existence only serves to legitimize an increasingly indefensible and out-of-touch conservative agenda.

A LOT of rural Republicans (especially in the South) also still think the GOP serves their best interest. At the end of the day, the Republican party's base is comprised of people who only care about themselves and their families rather than the needs of the country as a whole (even when policies that benefit the whole country would help them as well, ironically).

Farm bankruptcies are skyrocketing, in some jurisdictions higher than in 2008. https://www.wsj.com/articles/this-one-h ... counts-wsj [sorry, paywall] Shitshow’s trade war playing out as any rational person had expected.

Yup. But it wasn't until the shutdown that they finally started thinking "Maybe electing an elitist con-man from New York who doesn't know the least bit about us or our livelihood was a huge mistake." That being said, I would be surprised if a significant number of farmers vote Democrat in 2020.

This has changed a few times since being posted, so if y’all haven’t kept up with it I’d strongly recommend reading it.

I still believe the 10 year goal is ludicrously unrealistic and I’m afraid once the CBO comes back with their estimate it’ll become a non-starter. That last bullet point needs to be removed or it will certainly not make it through Congress, either due to the cost, the socialism boogie man moniker, or both.

I know I’m sounding like a broken record, but progressives need slow the fuck down. Demanding everything all at one and that it happen right now is a non-starter and the economic whiplash would be so severe the benefits would be rendered moot for all the problems it would create.
