another mod i did this morning.
the OS2 was the first pedal i ever bought when i was in high school
they are super cheap now so i figured why not bask in nostalgia a bit
well stock, it sounds like someone threw a blanket over the amp
so i decided to mod it a lil bit & now it really cooks

Alright, I jumped and tried the Laika Fuzz, my most complex build so far.

Starting with a plain, undrilled enclosure and a PCB .... and then pretty much arriving where I wanted to, was quite a ride, including some detours - a great, informative, educational and satisfactory ride nonetheless!

As my DMM was out of battery, I couldn't measure any of the Qs or other bits and in the end, I didn't bother to mess with the trimpots either - I just plugged it in to see if it works and damn, it sure does, it sounds fantastic as is!



I have a 2SB178 in Q2, a MP16 in Q3 and a GT320B in Q4 for now. D1, D3 and D4 is also in sockets.

Anyway, here it is (thanks digi2t and PMowdes ).

Love the builds here! This thread has so much to offer in odd circuits and cool finishes, as a beginner I appreciate the look inside other home made boxes.

This is my first Muff-style clone, it's the freely available Raincoat by buggfx. Four BC549s, space to use some big caps, stupid tight fit in 1590B but I was lucky. However, shit fits crooked here and there, switch is off-center, hence the name. Also Pavement. The resistors sticking up is a fix to get a tranny.. grounded. Now it makes.. gold soundz. Alright it sounds like a gated Muff. I adjusted those resistors to keep it sustaining for a good while, really like the range of the pots too.

Paint is black and white Hammerite patches with some crap lettering. Not my worst, but it's what you do when you can't be bothered to spray coat or something before boxing up.

for some reason i don't really vibe w/ 125B even tho it gets u a lot more space internally w/o taking up too much more space externally

Kudos for fitting 2 open frame jacks and power at the top of a 1590b. Not an easy task. That's why I always use 125b's, my measuring game isn't on point enough to not drive me insane.

My measuring is not super precise but I'm getting the feel for this box size. Also a little round file is good to have. Input jack as you can see is a bit too close to the power, but both of the jacks' wafer edges rest on the power jacks nut anyway. Then it's placing them so the plugs clear the bottom of the pots. That went fine, but I had to put in the pots (already wired) and the jacks (not wired up) at the same time. Not a fun job, I was relieved and surprised when everything fit. Thankfully the next enclosure to be filled is a BB.

edit: I think I know why adding those (10.5k) resistors made it work noiselessly - I used 4 NOS 100k carbon comp resistors for the base grounds. Measuring them beforehand one was 99k but I used it anyway. Turns out not a good idea, so if u ever build the Raincoat be wary of that maybe.

Another one. This is a Madbean Cave Dweller (with "bright" mods) and a Soulsonic Heavy Darling fuzz (before the delay, top toggle). It was what I had the parts for, would fit and need no more than 4 pots. My first try at a two-in-one pedal and it worked out pretty nicely, although more work than I thought it would be, of course.

Started by gutting the box of a Shoe Pixel clone I want to re-do and drilling a few more holes in it. One for an LDR that when switched on (bottom toggle) gives you some warble/delay ramp up functionality. I had to tinker with it a bit, ended up adding a 5v zener and 1nf cap, which somehow made this function work when the fuzz was on. Without it, the delay would turn off after a few seconds with both fuzz and LDR on. Now it's fine, more subtle than I'd like but still gives it some extra weirdness. Because of the mods, the feedback doesn't self-oscillate, but it's also not as dark my other Cave Dweller-based pedal. I also didn't have all the right pots (3xB50k) so I used an A50k for the Echo and B25k + adjusting some resistors for Time. Ended up losing the shortest delay time, so the range just goes from medium to long basically.
