Re: Marvel's reeeaaaalllly kicking DC's ass, now
I just watched Suicide Squad last night.
Against my better judgement, but yeah.
It was weird. Pretty much the whole film I couldn't stop thinking about how lame the direction was. Like, it was a fairly decent cast, and in patches the writing wasn't horrible (though tbh the storyline was 98% drivel), but just the direction totally fucked it. First film I've ever really noticed the direction so prominently before.
(I'm no cinephile so don't be surprised if noticing direction is new territory for me).
Further evidence of DC sucking it.
Also the Thor films are fun.

I consider doing this more often than I care to admit.

^^ yeah watched most of suicide squad and felt like you could tell SOMEONE was trying their best to make a good film, be that Will Smith or someone else or whatever, but there was just more people trying to make a trendy film (and somehow made something that felt like an early 00s shitty scifi/action thing).

Re: Marvel's reeeaaaalllly kicking DC's ass, now
the thing with Suicide squad that was shit was the fact that half the film was made up with character intros...and then there was only one actual mission only took about with no lead up and then it ended really anti climatically.
I mean, you cant spend that much time on character background and intros unless you're gonna make a long movie...as a template to something like that, watch dirty dozen, don't copy it, but that movie managed to do character intros a lot quicker, had some lead up to the mission, and by the time shit got real, as a viewer you had a deep connection with the characters and you cared about what would happen to them.
Suicide Squad completely failed at getting any kind of connection between viewer and character...and what the fuck was with the late introduction of cannon fodder character...the guy that joins them at the last minute and then is first to die...such a useless addition

Suicide Squad would only really be done well with a series, anyway.
Arrow got close-ish with the few odd episodes involving them, but it wasn't exactly mind blowing.

Since I always forget:

Ok! Big afrofuturism nerd here. Links to some cool shit from a class I taught almost four years ago (where does the time go):

This movie looks incredible. Looks like that’s my Valentine’s date...Invisible Woman loves Marvel movies as much as I do. She wants beer, burgers, and to see Black Panther

The Gifted turned out to be utter garbage, but here's hoping the X-Men will get a sorely needed reboot with Disney's acquisition of Fox, even if it means some light crossover with the rest of the MCU. I'd be down for Storm to feature prominently in Black Panther 2, for sure.

Even if you halfway liked the other marvel films and knew a little bit about AfroFuturism (or even none at all), it’s enough of an awesome film as a stand-alone piece to blow you away let alone being a part of this bigger universe.
I hope you have the Invisible Woman some hot Valentines meat on a bun.
