Parenting ILF

Post by reckon luck »

children are good
children are great
we surrender our will
as of this date.

A place to talk parenting things of all shades, shapes, sizes and circumstances.

Confession: I made this thread because I'm stupidly proud of my baby boy and want to share him with the world. Bug turns 1 in March, he's tall like his dad, and he loves making noise and plays with my gear whenever possible. He busted out another jam this morning:

I love him with every fiber of my being. :joy:

Heh. My kid is a destroyer of worlds already. He's not getting anywhere near the gear

My boy turns one next month. He's got little hobbit feet and ham hands and is generally the sweetest kid as long as he has had sleep and/or food. He also loves putting on a show for others... Hoping he's musically inclined. He loves hearing the theme songs on cartoon shows but doesn't give a shit about the stuff (i.e. the actual cartoon) in between the opening and closing songs. He also likes to drum on everything and tries to sing along...

Oh, and dogs. Loves dogs. Has attempted to jump out of my arms to get to dogs.

Since we are doing this...
Confession: We buy dog toys for our kid. He loves them. They squeak, they ruffle, they're soft, they're meant to chew on, and he uses them to play with our dog that loves squeak toys (which makes him cackle).

My older boy (who's about 3 1/2) has been all over my gear from the jump. I used to mix with him in my lap and let him play around in my music room at our old house. I have a video on facebook of him going full Metal Machine Music, with a guitar on a stand and some fuzz pedals. We have got him little toy instruments to play with, which he really likes and he always wants to play with stuff if I get new gear in. My younger just turned 9 months and he's only just starting to crawl, pull him self up and get interested in stuff beyond putting it in his mouth. All my gear is in the basement now, which they don't have free access to, and I don't even really have stuff setup properly yet down there.

The older boy...he's kind of a handful. He's very creative and has a big personality. He reminds me a lot of myself as a kid, except he's not deathly afraid of me and I'm not a rage fueled alcoholic, so our dynamic is very different than mine was with my dad. We didn't have kids until we were married for 11 years. So I've certainly had a chance to mature and mellow before having little children in my life every day. Which is good, because there was a lot of really intense emotions and experiences from pregnancy up to the present with our first. All kids have their challenging and rewarding behaviors and experiences, I love both of my kids a lot, but our younger is a lot lower maintenance so far and a lot more friendly and happy towards me in general.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

My son is almost 6, and I bought him a Jackson Dinky and put new pickups in it, and he has now requested a fuzz pedal :omg:

He isn't particularly interested in learning chords and shit yet, but he likes to hold it and strum it like he's playing. I'm not trying to make it a chore for him, I want his interest to grow naturally, and if it doesn't that's ok too.

I share the happy moments to remind myself that there are happy moments. I would not suggest having a kid on the same whimsy as bangin a rando.

Having kids is great. That being said, a phrase in common use between my wife and I about the time before we had children is "when money was our baby". Alternatively, "when we used to sleep".

Tune it to an open tuning and get him a slide and a fuzz.

My Instagram page is basically me doing musical things with my kids. It is probably my greatest joy.
Same on all accounts, except my music is way less banging

It's hard to be as patient as I strive to be lately, especially with how tired I am. I mean, I know we're all tired, but it's just figuring out a new life season. My commute/school schedule means I'm gone from 6am-about 7pm Monday through Friday, then work all day Saturday. Sunday is "family day" but that normally also has homework that needs to get done. IDK, it'll all be fine. I'm just so tired lately and miss my kids

Check my BST thread.

every time I list my kids people only offer trades even though I say no trades.

Honestly kids are super awesome, I have 4 and they are the best part of my life,
#1 loves flutes though, she can play any flute even ones I buy her on work trips
#2 is into horns and drums which is cool
#3 noodles on guitars which is awesome https://www.instagram.com/p/BOYV0KmgF3V ... by=ben_hbg
and #4 seems to gravitate towards drums and vocals

we tried to start a family band but we fight alot, which is like a regular band except after they yell at you for playing something wrong you get to say "go brush your teeth"

I have 1 and 3 yr old daughters who are so dang cute I can't believe I had any part in making them. And also sometimes my wife and I look at each other and wonder how we created the spawn of satan and just feel like two shells devoid of self. For those considering a second, remember 2 kids=4 kids. It's maths.

It's been super fun letting them play all kinds of random instruments around the house and I'm really looking forward to when they're a little older and can do more family noise jammin. I have a 4 yr old nephew who's really into drums and just got a kid kit so there's that too.

I've posted these around before so forgive me but,
kids make great ambient backing tracks for noodling...
