Just downloaded! This will be a challenge :)

Edit: Is it considered bad taste to use some of your own samples (the submitted ones) in the track?

I'm enjoying Oscillateur and Ibarakishi's creations at the moment, I think they will feature in this...

Not at all.

ibarakishi's sample sped up a bunch sounds like a small slavic fast picked folk instrument. :thumb:

I quickly listened to everything, that should be good RadioMusic fodder... :)

I'm normalizing/mono-ing/etc. everything and then I'll just play live with it in the modular (probably with the EHX 22500 after it) until I get something good.

That's pretty much my plan except I'll probably end up layering a couple of takes. We shall see.

I've been turning some of them into drones via Audacity and PaulStretch to try to make them more harmonious with each other... but I'm not sure if that's the best idea. I have Ableton Live Lite but don't know much about how to do anything in it except record multiple tracks which is what I use it for... hmmm this is trickier than I thought. Maybe I should send some of these through my pedals? I usually create all of my sounds with guitars and pedals and just edit in a DAW and add some reverb if required, I think this project will require a different way of thinking and working. If anyone has any suggestions for workflows or free software for transforming sounds please let me know.

My original plan was to process everything with pedals and other gear entirely. But after hearing all the samples I think this is going to be tough. Might just have to get to work and experiment with that idea before overthinking a different approach.

How's everyone's music going so far? I have managed to get things working by droning the hell out of everything and pitching samples to a similar key... I have about 2 minutes so far I think, and I'm quite pleased with it... it's a very different way of working that's for sure. I'm using EA ILF Sample, Miranda, openclosinggate and ibarakishi so far (sorry oscillateur I love one of your loops but couldn't make it work with everything else so far).. oh yes and our samples as well :)

DOS/DRod - what do we do once the track is ready? Do we send it to the same email address? I found this line from DRod:

"Unrelated. I will be mastering this again. Likely around -14 lufs for internet compatability. So peak DB doesn't matter too much. But if your track is slammed loud, you will be quieted down. Dynamics are your friend. Uncompressed wav or aiff if possible."

How do I check what -14lufs is? I'm using Adobe Audition, it doesn't seem to have anything called that - I usually make sure I don't go above -0.1dB, but this lufs thing is something else as far as I can see from randomly reading the internet. I also have Ableton Live Lite, so if that has a luf control in it I can check the file there for it. Thanks.

Yeah you can email it to me once it's ready. I'll zip it up and send it to Dr. Od(d) once everything's in.

Also! Somehow fcknoise's email didn't go through (and still wont, weirdly) so there will be one more sample for everyone coming up in the next couple of days :)

Basically, focused on the making it sound good. You don't have to worry about lufs too much. It's around what all the services put there use to normalize audio. So if you squash the hell out of your mix, it'll sound squashed but not any louder than someone else's.

Main point, don't worry too much about making it loud, it will just be as loud as everyone else's in the end.
