What in the world are you talking about?BetterOffShred wrote:I was alive when return of the Jedi came out and star wars has been a part of my life since I was 4. This being said it saddens me to see how they have injected Harry potter and the hunger games with a glaringly politically correct multicultural cast into a vehicle to remove the aging stars of what I grew up loving. And I don't know, maybe they all wanted to be out.. it just feels cheap and like a weird facsimile
I understand having issues with the film, but is one of your issues the ethnicity and race of the cast?

no that's not what i meant, i was already referring to the last 2 disney ones which is what i meant by the 2, and then the 3 movies that came before that, in the order they were released, and 2 + 3 = 5?.

Though I will chime in with this: apprently Disney is ready to prepare for the Han movie to bomb. Understandably, it looks awful. Hell, Rogue One was the best shot at making a decent Star Wars side story movie and was still pretty average, imo.

Re: The Last Jedi
ya. ya actually i think the original trilogy is good i was just being an ass because i felt it was obvious what i originally meant.
i don;t think it really matters anymore if the movies are good or bad. its like the 3 georgy porgey boi proved that you can still make really bad movies and make lots of money so disney is just like, oh we can make a lot more movies than you george, here's (6 billion?) i forget what the acquiistion price was but its pretty much the safest investment you can make at almost any price. he already did the experiment and results were good, people will pump obscene money in for total crap. (to be fair so have many other franchises, did anyone watch Jurassic world lmao vroom vroom dna dino).

Re: The Last Jedi
It's not so much a Star Wars film as it is a critique of Star Wars. It's the first attempt at a feminist Star Wars film, as it really breaks down the notion of male heroism from previous movies. The hot shot pilot guy, can't remember his name, is basically a total fuck up who spends the entire movie either mansplaining to wiser and more competent female authority figures, or fucking up when he tries to buck that authority with some macho stunt. The movie encourages us to root for the macho male stunt, and then asks: "why the fuck did you root for that stupid shit?"Invisible Man wrote:But I thought this is a good movie that is embarrassed to be a Star Wars flick.
By the end of the movie, he finally gets it right by choosing a path other than the heroic male blaze of glory: he retreats.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a huge fan of it, but I think the director was at least trying to do something thoughtful.

Re: The Last Jedi
I'm going to reiterate, now that I've had time to think about it, that I quite liked this film.
The original trilogy, as unfuckwithable as it is, is full of fucking enormous plot holes, shit acting, paper thin characters, sell-outs etc. And they were godly.
I see no reason to expect the new stuff to be any better. I go into it with the same level of suspension of disbelief as any Star Wars film requires, and as long as it doesn't hit me over the head with its shittiness (a la ep 1-3) then I'm fine. I thought the story did some interesting things, the humour was flat but could have been worse (hello Jarjar), light saber stuff was pretty rad, the ships were pretty cool, Benicio's character was pretty rogueish, but actually amoral (as opposed to rogues like Han who are actually good guy diamonds in the rogue rough). And Laura Dern for bonus Jurassic Park feels. I think the diverse cast added to the feeling of the universe being more fully-fleshed - why the fuck space would only consist of white people and aliens is beyond me. Walk down a street in any large city - that's what space is going to look like in my mind.
But now I'm over-thinking things.
I liked it. I'll probably see it again.
