what's the good metal now?

I haven't been listening to much metal recently, but when I was it was mostly the new doom, sludgy, etc stuff. What's the best current metal for your tastes, personally, that's coming out right now?

Is Harvey Milk still around?
And Cunt of Luna too.

But I think black metal is still the good one, deafheven, wittr and those.

What is the last metal album or band you enjoyed?
What are your "no, this shit sucks" boundaries?

I was listening to Brandon Small's new Galaktikon album for a few weeks, I liked it.

I'm not super into harsher, more lo-fi black metal, but I haven't written off the whole genre or anything.

I’m not sure where they fall on the metal spectrum, but the new God Mother record is my favorite thing this year.

Queueing up all these bands now, arbitrarily starting with Deafheaven's "New Bermuda." This is the kind of black metal I can get into. :)

I enjoyed the first LITURGY - Aesthethica. They kind of get lumped in with DEAFHEAVEN.
Some recent favorites on the Black Metal front:
LEVIATHAN - Scar Sighted (this is probably his most accessible work?)
AKHYLS - The Dreaming I
AOSOTH - IV: Arrow In The Heart

D.o.S. posted an awesome album in Be(a)st Thread.
If you like Thrash; VEKTOR and IRON REAGAN are great.

And I like PALLBEARER a lot too. Prog-y stuff.

EDIT: Last four suggestions. These are all 'newer' bands (i.e. this decade )
I. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM - I'm surprised how many people on ILF like them.
II. In a 'similar' vein as LITURGY and DEAFHAVEN - Check out ALTER OF PLAGUES
III. This band ASYMMETRY put out an EP that is sort a re-articulation of Black Metal. http://on-the-board.blogspot.com/2017/0 ... ether.html
IV. MAMALEEK is probably like my favorite band ever these days.

Yeah, bad joke I guess :( Love them to death! And Magnus Lindberg is probably my favorite Nordic person.

What's their stuff been like since their first release? I haven't heard this name in years. Jesus their first release was 2008; it's almost been a decade?!

The first album and 'Fever Dream' (probably my favorite?) are very similar. They sort of went into Black Metal/Hip-Hop Beat Territory on 'Kurdaitcha' (the album that got me into them; probably my second favorite). The sound became more expansive for 'He Never Spoke A Mumblin' Word' (it's almost like a "wall of sound-esq" album with screaming) and their latest from 2015 'Via Dolorosa' is a straight-up 'Blackened Jazz' album. The first three are the most rooted in the vernacular of Black Metal...the last two sound like very different forms of music. It's like Creolization in sound.

If Aosoth are getting mentioned, Haeomoth deserve a mention too, absolutely wonderful band.
Also good to see Mamaleek get named, weird dudes doing weird things.
Sannhet might appeal to you too based on other recommendations. The Body are always doing some collab with someone and they're usually pretty good also.
