Order changer/routing changer/ab box

Postby manymanyhaha » Fri May 19, 2017 3:09 pm

Been taking the board apart and putting it back together again and am having the same old decision as to where to put the looping software, before the effects or after.

Then it occurred to me, why can't I have an a/b switch that allows me to do both? So I drew this:

Image

Hope it makes sense. Essentially, it's a 2 in/2 out with send/return and the a/b just selects which input is diverted to the effects loop (in this case, looping software).

Now, this is probably totally impractical because that sound card for the looping software has 8 inputs and 8 outputs which means if I had one box to do all 8 channels, I would need a total of 24 inputs AND 24 outputs or 48 connectors total. It's a bit absurd.

But I've been looking for just a one channel version and can't seem to find anything like it. I see 1 in/1 out boxes with 2 sends/returns but those aren't the same thing. Anyone seen anything like this or maybe have an alternative idea of how to accomplish the same thing?

something like this? http://saturnworkspedals.com/product/pe ... -switcher/

if u are into DIY, u could make one pretty easily. i think it's a 4DPT if u want the LED indicator.

Thanks y'all but actually those boxes are 1 in/1 out with 2 send/receives to switch between two different loops.

Mine is a 2 in/2 out with 1 send/receive with the switch flipping which in/out goes to the loop. Still looking.

Would be a lot easier to move the effects than the looper, and you know - same difference. :D

(unless I am still missing something which is very possible)

also pretty sure its the same thing….

your extra in/out is the same as a send&return
your diagram and beavis' are also identical if u compare them. u just used a different label.

loop 1 = fx
loop 2 = soundcard

so you get:
in > fx > sc > out
hit button get:
in > sc > fx > out

You'll have to forgive me, I'm sure what you mean exactly. Can you elaborate?

Except I'm probably not understanding something, but...

I don't think he likes doing custom work. I bought a bunch of stuff from him a couple years ago and he was very communicative. I then asked him about something custom that wasn't too difficult and he kind of demurred and I responded with some sort of compromise and he never responded. I sent him the same thing thinking email might have dropped and still nothing, gave up. Which is fine, he's free to do what he wants but point being, I don't think he likes doing custom work.

If I were to build one that was for 8 channels (so 24 ins and 24 outs), how would I modify this so I only needed one power adapter? Anyone?

I've seen those before, they look really cool but I've already got programmable bypass strips that are perfect for my setup in terms of ins/outs etc

I'm gonna try to build my own and fit as many channels into as small an enclosure that I can. Will I be able to daisy chain the power for multiple channels off one adapter? I should be able to do that, right? If I recall correctly, that is what I did on a 6 channel mute pedal I built last year. I just can't seem to find it right now! (grrr, moving disorganization)
