It's weird. They don't translate anything. You just get a picture and a phrase above it and you sort of have to figure out what it means. It's basically learning by ostension, so I don't know how it's going to teach grammar. You can find it pretty easily if you want to give it a go.

Did you show the lady in it your weeds? Crotchweeds that is.

Yeah that non-translating got on my nerves when I started, I know it's meant to teach you to learn by seeing like you would as a child but I just wanted to know if I was right or not sometimes about what I was saying... I should probably start it up again though, I'd very much like to learn a few languages.

The key is finding a fluent speaker to bounce things off of, or better yet - take a vacation in a part of the world where the language you're trying to learn is the native tongue. I spent a month and a bit in Germany after having read four children's books (with a German-English dictionary as my right hand man) and my German went from pathetic to just lame.

I was thinking to invest in some children's books though. It would be about the same thing but you'd know what's going on...

Seriously, it was the best idea I'd ever had. Simple language, simple words. It really made learning the basics a whole lot easier and kind of enjoyable. It was a great conversation starter too... when ppl would see me reading a german children's book they'd sometimes come up to me and ask what I'm reading and why. Once, this girl asked me to read and translate this story that I was reading - it was about a small mole (von kleinen malwurf) who was shat upon and was trying to figure out whose poop it was that fell on his head... it was neither romantic, nor did it get me in her pants. But it was fun.
