Guitar... what should I look for?

Post by sylnau »

Which brand should I consider if I want to spend around 1800 – 2200 USD (2500 – 3000 CAD) on a new guitar?
I like quality… recent built Fender/Gibson don’t have that quality feel to me anymore.
I’m not into flashy guitars like PRS.

Something available in Canada.

Can you be more specific about the features youre looking for? At that pricepoint if youre willing to be open minded, a used ESP is going to shit on everything else you could find, but looks like youre kinda picky about looks. To be honest, at that price level i cant even begin to think of what would be available locally for you. The new yamaha line has a MIJ guitar that i imagine is pretty fantastic quality and theyre selling for around $1600 if im not mistaken but im about 1000000$ certain you have better chance of finding a million dollars in cash in the back of a taxi than actually finding one of those in a guitar shop outside of japan.

From all your other posts, I'm thinking you should just get a Fano since that's what you want. At your price point it shouldn't be *too* difficult to get a used one off Reverb or something that ships to Canada.

I thought the new "N.O.S." finishing option on the Standard series wasn't relic'ed?

Otherwise, maybe look at the Kauer Titan?

just poking fun. but if they're older models they're probably relic'd. i didn't look coz fanos don't interest me personally.

The only place where I could get a Fano in Canada has not got back to me... after 3 - 4 email asking for price and info (the guy always have an excuse). It's been 3 weeks now that I'm waiting for a price.

And it's a bit weird spending that much on a guitar without trying it first.

Is Fano still the same quality now that Dennis Fano is not there anymore?

FWIW.....I played some fanos once and they were just kinda whatever. There are a couple of kauers up on reverb now for cheeeeap. One is like 1700 and it has a mastery and a mono case.

Have you looked at these? Im really intrigued by them and you can spec out a cool one in your pricerange. https://lincolnguitarco.com/

I don't want to import a guitar from the USA. Custom + Brokers fees = money lost.

Yeah, I played some Fano's and they were all mediocre guitars at best, really nothing great.

I've really liked some Fanos, others definitely left something to be desired. I wouldn't buy one without playing it first.

Space—are you talking about the MIJ Revstars? I played one at the SXSW gear expo last year and it was pretty impressive. I've seen them available on bigger sites like Sweetwater etc—not sure if those companies have different reach in Canada and might be easier to work with.

After a quick search, looks like there's one at CME and some on Reverb, so not as readily available as they have been in the past. :idk:

I can't think of getting something out of the Fender/Squier line tbh, they have everything I'd ever need. But if I had $2K to spend in another guitar I'd get a Hagstrom, just because Sweden.
