Scandinavian music festivals
I love everyone I meet from Scandinavia, have become really interested in Scandinavian psych music lately and I love European music festivals, especially the non-huge ones (been to Green Man, Cactus and DesertFest in the last year, had a great time at each). So my girl and I may have some time in July and August and are thinking of camping around Scandinavia while trying to catch music festivals for a month.
The problem is timing. It appears a lot of the ones that peaked my interest are happening before or after the time we might have. And there are so many, it's hard to figure out what is what. Then it occurred to me, there are quite a few Scandinavian regulars at ILF!
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Oya Festival in Norway had a pretty awesome lineup last year (it's held in August). You might like the bands scheduled this year?

Me and the misses pretty much only go to private psy-parties (either in the city or out in the woods/on an island). They are plentiful in the summer, but they're usually announced only a couple of weeks in advance. You can drop me a PM when it's getting closer and I can hook you up if you want. It's much more cosy than the bigger events imo, like Øya. But yeah, it's electronic music.
Oslo Psych Fest would be the best for psych rock, but it's in November:

Re: Scandinavian music festivals
That's an awesome lineup and definitely going on the shortlist. The other two on the shortlist at the moment are https://www.trena.net/ (interesting location) and http://www.ilosaarirock.fi/2017/ (nice lineup).
Any other recs definitely appreciated!

Awesome, definitely want to take you up on the kind offer. I definitely like some electronic music (Aphex Twin's Ambient Works, old stuff like Scorn and Techno Animal and minimalist stuff like Gas) but not really into, I don't know what you call it, but the mainstream boom boom boom stuff. What kind of electronic music is it, usually?UglyCasanova wrote:Me and the misses pretty much only go to private psy-parties (either in the city or out in the woods/on an island). I've wanted to go to the Oslo Psychfest the last couple of years but couldn't make either. Two years ago, I reallywanted to see Hills and last year, it was kind of the whole lineup but I had just followed Goat around for eight shows in October and couldn't justify the extra expense.

I would be totally into that but it would depend on how bad I want to stay with my girlfriend. Let's see: Swedish metal fest, girlfriend. Swedish metal fest, girlfriend. This is a really hard decision.

I think Øya is the chillest festival in Norway these days. Slottsfjell is pretty good as well: http://www.slottsfjell.no/ Both have a good amount of smaller Norwegian acts on their line-ups. I've also heard good things about Piknik i Parken. Oh, and if you get the chance, Vinjerock takes place in beautiful surroundings, and is pretty cozy.

Øya - definitely has our interestEivind August wrote:I think Øya is the chillest festival in Norway these days. Slottsfjell - I'm going to have to look closer into the lineup
Piknik i Parken - looks great but in June
Vinjerock - this one definitely has our interest. Beautiful place to camp.
Especially interested in festivals that allow camping onsite. Thanks for those!

Re: Scandinavian music festivals
Gotcha. Did a quick search and listening to stuff I found here: https://www.beatport.com/genre/psy-trance/13/top-100. This is pretty much what you mean, yes? I might be able to get her interested in it, at least for one weekend. I think this is the kind of music she was describing to me that everyone played at Burning Man when she went a couple years ago. Shows you how little we get out of the guitar worldUglyCasanova wrote:It's psy-trance, so I guess you could say it's somewhat boom boomymanymanyhaha wrote:Awesome, definitely want to take you up on the kind offer. Sounds about right to me. You could always come to ILF EU and play music yourself and sweep your gf off her feet.

Definitely go to Vinjerock for the camping experience. Loads of opportunities to walk around in the beautiful wildernes, the organizers have a pretty loose structure (no fences and shit), and they usually have some rad bands from the Norwegian underground.
