So, my Pro Tube has been giving me hassle ever since I got it with white noise, arcing, popping, you name it.
My dad did a job for a dude that does electronics stuff and makes old timey arcade tables who said he can service old amps and would be happy to have a look at it.
So I took it apart to try and isolate the problem before I decide give it to him, narrowed it down to the preamp circuitry around V1 and 2, and the pre knob.
I've cleaned the pots before and it didn't work, but I just hosed them the fuck down with Isopropyl the other day, then proceeded to do every contact I could see while the chassis was out. Totally flooded the whole amp.
Put a shitty old Chinese or Sovtek 12AX7 in V1 (couldn't even read the label).
Put it back together, let it sit, whatever.
Fired it up today.
Fucking silence.
No noise.
Only my guitar.
Had a burn with my DE1984 and RV3 and pretended to be in a shitty Pelican covers band for a while.
Wave of relief and satisfaction.
Gonna move to get my Sovtek fixed and run this stereo rig I've been talking up for years but have never done anything about.
