Anyone use this?

I'd being using it as a controller for a laptop/DAW for demoing and recording rehearsals.

Anything similar people would recommend?

if you're just going to use it as a controller and not any of the other features (multitrack, audio interface, etc). then just get a controller geared towards mixing or w/ the configuration u like.

otherwise, zoom r's are really nice for the price

I've been using this for a few years as both an interface while at home and a portable recorder for out in the field. Having 8 ins is great, I've used it for live tracking a bunch with great results. I never do any mixdown on it, when I've got my recordings I use it in SD Card Reader mode and dump my tracks into my DAW. I've gotten a lot of use out of it.

Perfect. That's just what I have in mind.
I'm surprised there aren't more things that fit this bill.

Cheers :hobbes:

Yeah, it's super useful, I'm also surprised there isn't much competition for it.

I think Tascam is the only other company that does the consumer market hardware recorder thing ...

Btw, it sucks that zoom 86'd the midi functionality from this. They had it for the hd8 - I'm surprised zoom got rid of it
