Just a note, I like Snowden and Assange (I've never considered Snowden a traitor), but I have some problems with Chelsea Manning due to the probability she got a lot of people killed with her stupidity.

Snowden did it right, in my opinion. Manning didn't.
(Also, my opinion isn't incredibly strong where Manning is concerned, the biggest issue I have is Obama using this as an opportunity to get in the news again)

So Snowden, the guy who fled to Hong Kong and Russia rather than face the consequences of being caught (because the whistleblower law wouldn't apply to him as a contractor and he was capital F fucked) did it right... while Manning, who pled guilty, cooperated with the investigation, received the longest sentence of any leaker ever (despite none of the information being classified as Top Secret) and was subjected to such inhumane treatement that it was ruled by the UN as torture, did it wrong?

Are you sure it's not because she revealed that the US (shockingly!) was committing war crimes?

Also Obama had to respond, that's how formal petitions that gather more than 100,000 signatures work. The White House is obligated to respond after that threshold.
