Need some Windows Laptop/Maschine advice.

Postby Aquietcabin1978 » Fri Dec 16, 2016 10:29 am

Looking for some advice on windows laptops. I snagged the Maschine Mikro from the BST and wouldn't you know it, the very next day my tower PC decides to up and stop turning on. IT is a roughly 6 year old HP slim whatever, doesn't even have a firewire card. So instead of sinking any money into fixing it I am thinking about copping a used windows laptop to rock the maschine and reapear/cruddy USB interface.

Any suggestions of what to look for? Hoping to keep it around $300, cheaper if possible.

Any reason you want a laptop?

If you have a desktop then you already have screen, keyboard, and mouse.

You could put together a desktop pretty affordable-like.

Yeah, portability for sure. Don't need a big desktop PC. The hock shop up the street always has a bunch of cheap laptops, going to go peep what they have tomorrow morning on the way to the post office.

Something like this HP seems reasonable?

Only thing about that is it has 2x USB 3 and only 1x USB 2 port. I've had some issues with older hardware and drivers not liking USB 3 ports. Depends on what you're running I guess.

Hadn't thought of that. Running a cruddy Berhringer USB interface and the maschine micro mk2. That would be it. Maybe a printer for the kids school junk.

Any other opinions on windows 7 laptops? I don't want to get 10 as I have read it updates whether you want it to or not. Never used 8 so that leaves 7 I guess.

Should be fine, that's not outrageous for that machine.

If you shop around more you can get equivalent spec'd business returns (which this obviously is) for $260-350, but it'll do a reasonable amount of heavy lifting with that processor and RAM.

That is the laptop I ended up with. I saved a few bucks and went with the 500 GB drive, which should be more than enough for anything I'll be doing. Decent for under two bills. Thanks yo.

Yea, can always use an external if you need more space!
