UG what other bpb albums should I check out? I dont really know where to start

oh man, i'm in love with everything from Will so....if you like I See a Darkness vibe check out
Ease Down the Road
Master and Everyone

You might wanna start with his early Palace releases, off the top of my head:
There is No One What Will Take Care of You.
Palace Brothers.
Hope

Days in the Wake.

Viva Last Blues...really good

He released a LOT of his best material as singles and there are some compilation albums worth finding
Guarapero/Lost Blues 2
Lost Blues and Other Songs....i really like this one. He put out a lot of singles, and I think chronologically when he would release an album he also put out a 7" that had songs not on the album, usually those songs were the real gems. Into the 2000's he still put out singles to coincide with new albums but they tended to just be songs off the albums :(

At some point he released a "Bonnie Prince Billy SIngs Greatest Palace Music"
he used nashville session players to play old chestnuts from his early days...its OK if maybe over polished which was kinda the point. best idea is to listen to that and then try to find all of those songs from their original pressings

this is a favorite

he released a couple albums as Will Oldham that are great too
Black/Rich Music
Joya
i really like these cuts off that album

Some of the newer stuff he changed gears a bit
Superwolf nice collab with Matt Sweeney
The Letting Go....especially beautiful
Lay Down in The Light
Beware

You could really just jump in at any point and find some superb music, but maybe starting from the beginning with his first release "ohio riverboat song" and going forward might be fun too...that's how I went about it and back then the internet wasn't like these days, so you've got that to help.

He's on Drag City, listed under different variations of "bonnie prince billy"

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions all. Im reading the book "Will Oldham on Bonnie Prince Billy" right now and it's super interesting to hear his process and perspective, but I know so little of his music

Although I really really really really like "Blood Embrace" off Superwolf.

Ohhhh, I've been so busy lately didn't know he wrote a book! Gonna have to check it out :joy: He has always kept press at arms length or locked out completely. Superwolf is such a fun album, From what I understand there is a pretty neat backstory to how Superwolf came together with Matt...won't spoil it for you. You might check out his acting chops too, has been in some interesting films...Old Joy, Junebug, and Wendy & Lucy come to mind.

The book is in the form of an interview which is way cooler to me than a biography or anything that intent. & I definitely want to check out some of his film roles.

Uncle Grandfather, Bonnie Prince Billy and Silver Jews so close together, it's looking like we have pretty similar taste!

Favourite Will Oldham songs for me are both on the same album:

nice! from the late 90's I've been fortunate to see Will perform at least once or twice every year when he comes anywhere near my neck of the woods. i was lucky to see the Silver Jews on both of their US tours and hang out with David and Cassie too, really nice people. I imagine you're already a fan of Jason Molina..Songs:Ohia, Magnolia Electric Company. and see you like Bill Callahan aka Smog. You might also dig Will Sheff of Okkerville River too,

Phil Elverum is also worth checking out if you're not already familiar. His work as The Microphones and the Mt. Eerie is stellar stuff.
