Re: OBNE Mondegreen
I'm always involved in several live bands, so for me having gear I can dial in quickly and have it sound good is more important than one than cop those same tones but takes way more digging to do so. On the other hand, the OBNE stuff seems a little pricey, and the only ones that I've seriously thought about getting are the Haunt (which looks super rad, but haven't been super impressed with the demos I've heard) and the Black Fountain, and I'm waiting for one of the CME editions to pop up cheap cause I like black.

I will say it's a little bit lame that the modes on pretty much all of their pedals are just like "base effect + chorus/trem/filter/flange/octave"
Some of them sound cool but...they seem a little bit like...something you would find in a digitech rp- multi effect unit or something? At least the last couple kinda seem that way to me. I always thought the black fountain sounded really good

Yeah, it differs. In one of my bands they wouldn't know whether to kiss me or kill me if I kicked on an OBNE pedlol or anything that sounds like it; in another they wouldn't be able to tell (half the time they look up at the sky confused if I transpose a line to a different octave. The third, though, that's all about running loops and mangling them up and plenty of space for copious hands on tweakage. That's the band that keeps me sane right now, but the other ones pay for meat and bread, and in a way for the epiphanies that come as a result of the digging.larsbars wrote:I'm always involved in several live bands, so for me having gear I can dial in quickly and have it sound good is more important than one than cop those same tones but takes way more digging to do so. Re: OBNE Mondegreen
I was curious about pricing so I made a quick trip to Reverb.com.
The OBNE pedals go for about $200.
The Alexander pedals go for slightly less than that.
The Mr. Black pedals go for a bit less again but have fewer features.
The Keeley pedals have a range but mostly $150-200.
Assuming they all have the same components, I guess it makes sense that they all cost about the same.
I'm sort of curious about the expanded pedal pricing. When Alexander adds some features and another footswitch, the pedals cost $100 more. When Keeley does it, they add a whole lot more features, often a whole second set of algorithms.
How much is R&D worth? How can we tell how much work a builder put into the algorithms? What is this brave new world where if we sand off the logos then we can't tell the pedals apart by the guts?

Well you should be able to tell by the sounds, not the guts. So hopefully the sounds are good

Cloudscapes does real DSP. I don't think he has Spin experience. Likewise MTLASSY Scott.Strange Tales wrote:Well who here as coded Spin before? CALLING TEEJ OR CLOUDSCAPES.

Re: OBNE Mondegreen
Like a few months back cloudscapes built a resonant dual pitch shifter using the Spin that he posted about in the DIY section. I don't know why I remember this.oldangelmidnight wrote:Cloudscapes does real DSP. I don't think he has Spin experience. Likewise MTLASSY Scott.Strange Tales wrote:Well who here as coded Spin before? Also yea Dr. Scientist is a good shot as well, can't believe I forgot him.

That's because Dr. Ryantist is too busy building pedals to talk to us anymore.

Re: OBNE Mondegreen
hard to say the fv-1 is not real digital signal processing. not sure what i would call it, if not DSP....but ok. and cloudscapes built an fv-1 based octaver to replace his pog or something.

I guess what it's like to program the Spin chip. I honestly can't imagine programming audio through code, just doesn't make sense in my head. (sans Pure Data, though)

Seriously, I bet he'd answer questions about it. He is super busy lately though. So it might be a delayed response.
