Re: Brexit
Sounds like a fiber supplement.
(yes, I'm aware of what it actually is)
I think I'm on the stay side.

Re: Brexit
My wife's Norwegian, so I have that perspective. I understand the criticism that it's too technocratic. I also don't see how you can mash all of Europe together and expect European government to serve all well. The Euro's a mess. Too much variance in fiscal policy across states.
Leave seems like it would just yield a relationship where what little influence the UK has in Brussels now will disintegrate. They'd just wind up having to adhere to laws set in Brussels to retain access to the single market.
My bet would be on stay with a very narrow margin, in any case...

Leave is silly for all sorts of reasons in my eyes, both personal and political.

Re: Brexit
There's a lot of nationalist/racist/xenophobic "England doesn't look like our England anymore" bullshit from the leave camp.

Re: Brexit
I saw Erna Solberg talking to CNN, she seemed to issue a warning in the most pleasant terms possible. What's your position, UC?

Re: Brexit
On what? EU? I'm glad we're not part of EU (even if we're EEA). The currency is a joke. Only countries that are in the shitter can benefit from joining.
Erna Solberg? For being a right wing politician, she's not half bad. I'm far left myself (that's commie for you Americans, not right wing like your democrats, haha), but I'm sceptical of EU because I don't trust big bureaucracies.
I honestly haven't read up on the UK and the referendum though.

Well obviously. It's not like the Paki-bashers all died out at once, or like the US has a monopoly on that sort of shit.popvulture wrote:There's a lot of nationalist/racist/xenophobic "England doesn't look like our England anymore" bullshit from the leave camp.

Re: Brexit
Also the UK doesn't actually use the euro any more than they have to (and have always referred to it in my anecdotal and limited experience as "pretend money" and the like), so the currency isn't part of it (even if it is super convenient for tourism)

Re: Brexit
Well apparently they voted to leave and the pound immediately tanked.

Re: Brexit
Just heard that. Should I score some of those expensive British records I've been eyeing on Discogs? Profiteering, yay.cherler wrote:Well apparently they voted to leave and the pound immediately tanked.

But yes, it's distressing. It's mostly older Brits and townies that are pro Brexit. It's certainly very Trumpish.
