Unintended Use Pedals...
I think we've done this but who's using some of their pedals in a unintended or alternate capacity??? Some pedals sound great with the knobs down or when pushed to their non-musical limits or used in one weird trick ways... I saw saw a post recently and it got me thinking... I've been using my El Cap lately for just the reverb and modulation and I sometimes use one of my RRRs as a sweet boost... The Cloudbuster has a built in Truck Loud first in the chain so I use that as a dirt pedal and I figured out how to use my 2880 as just a delay...
What are yall doin with your pedlols???

The only thing I can think of like this is sometimes I use my ring mod with the blend set to mostly clean, and it sort of sounds like an ugly overdrive. The ring mod signal isn't loud enough to really change the pitch, it just gives a weird overtone to the signal.

it's fun to mess around with some of the delays on the dl4
sweep echo and reverse specifically.

Back in '89 or'90 I had a big Ibanez floor board thing and I made a patch with all the pitch and mods and pans that sounded like every car alarm going off at once with an air raid siren... We used that for years to clear house parties or scare the neighbors...Casavettes wrote:it's fun to mess around with some of the delays on the dl4

i set my boss bf-2 with all the knobs fully clockwise and just turn it on momentarily for like a second at a time.

this was my first thought as well. i don't know how to misuse pedals musically, most of my effects are dirt anyway.bigchiefbc wrote:The only thing I can think of like this is sometimes I use my ring mod with the blend set to mostly clean, and it sort of sounds like an ugly overdrive. I set my the knobs on my BF-2 fully counterclockwise (except the res, which I give a tiny turn up) and run it after my muff to give it teeth.backwardsvoyager wrote:sweep echo rules!Casavettes wrote:it's fun to mess around with some of the delays on the dl4

Feed a detune effect (Whammy) into a Microsynth and you'll get a trem-like beat with frequency based on the pitch of your note.

That's usually how I end up using all of my pedals, intentional or not.

Blowing Up into TAFM makes it get all messed up like the Fuck's crackle mode.

I like running a octave fuzz with the gain all the way down into a chorus with all the knobs all the way up. Has this cool raygun sound I use a lot. Not that crazy but lots of fun.

i also use my ibanez DML10 to make stuttering sounds, by using a short time but maxed out repeats and volume. it doesn't have trails and when you turn it off and on the repeats won't still oscillate from before. and you can have modulated stutters. so cool!

I liked to turn the time knob or whatever it was on the Boss PS-5 to make computer gibberish on a signal. It was a lot of fun.
You might be surprised at how great many guitar dirt pedals are as an outboard processor for your recordings. They can compress and grittify things in interesting ways.
