These are really high rated and are currently a fantastic deal for $100, I paid $150 for mine and feel like it was a really good buy. I love these headphones. They're really high quality and hard to break (good for me). I would recommend them! They could be a little more comfortable but they're still comfy enough for me to wear for around 5 hours

My DT770's broke the other day after my first soldering job didn't take. My second soldering was the reason they broke. Overheated the coil :/

The AKG's I've tried have been too claustrophobic in the bass department and too airy in the mids, if that makes sense. So I've decided to give a go with Ultrasound Pro 750's and'll let you know how it goes (unless I never get paid after all). From reading about them they seem almost too good to be true, non-fatigue, safe listening, flat response, titanium drivers, etc. I'm a bit worried about the passive electronics in there, but haven't heard anything bad about it so far.
I'm also going to go on a listening expedition and see if the Alessandro MS1's could be a good choice for second headphones when doing final stage mixing.

I did think about the AT M50's, but look at this stuff:

How can that be a good monitor?
Looking at a graph and listening in real life are two different things so I'm interested to hear.

I like cans from AKG but recently picked up some KRK's and rate them up there for monitoring and even mixing

Sennheiser wins points for their out of warranty refurb work - was $70 round trip shipped to have my PC350 (gaming headphones that I abuse a ton) "refurbed", which was simply 'send me a new updated pair in retail packaging.'

Two weeks shipping and processing time round-trip.

I have nothing bad to say.

I have some 280s and eyeing 595s as well.

In terms of sound alone, the Grado SR225i is probably the best thing in the lower price range, or SR325i if you really want. I used the AKG K271 MKII's for a while. They were good but lacked the clarity and the detail of the Grados, I think. With the Grados, you really do hear everything.

THAT SAID, this is for studio use specifically. The AKG K271 MKII's were a lot more comfortable than the Grados, and comfort IS important in studio. I know that Radiohead have used those headphones in studio, probably for that reason.

Just do not get the AKG K141MKII's, as they are open ear headphones which isn't great in studio. This is true for the Grados as well, but with those you decide if you want sound quality(def less important in studio) or sound isolation and comfort.

Another pair of headphones to look at are the Shure SRH440. I've seen these lauded a lot as the best cheap headphones, particularly for studio work.

All are good options.

I got a pair of the AKG 240 Studios after messing around with soem Sennheisers. They were awesome, but really heavy and super isolating.

Love the sound quality on the AKGs, and I use them for everything
