As always I love what you're doing! Refresh me on something. You are a fan of Wandre guitars right? The shop I used to work at recently had a Wandre bass. First one I have ever seen. When I grabbed it to play it I was immediately struck by the odd-shaped aluminum neck. But after only a moment I realized how comfortable that crazy shaped neck was!
Keep up the good work!!!!

hehehe. let's just say my plan is an offset.. a purple offset.. with a pickup behind the bridge..

mwa ha ha ha
this is officially happening now.
looking forward to this build - it'll be just like old times for me. i went through a phase of making offset shaped set-necks a few years ago before all the metallic science-fiction distractions of recent years !

here's another clue ( which also ties in nicely with the guild electrix thread over here ) ...

thanks !

yep.
they're weird to look at, but it's remarkable how quickly you get over the odd left-hand feel and simply start to enjoy playing them.
with a real Wandre - they are so lightweight to the point of flimsy and so odd feeling that you never forget that you're playing something quite alien ...
my approach with my Antonio guitars has been to try to bridge the weirdness-gap for current folks who might want something extraordinary to play with all that metal-neck harmonic richness but more of the heft and solidity of a 'normal' solid body electric.

i actually bought a vintage one thru a facebook friend in Rome in a 2AM moment of weakness ... it needs some parts ( ! ) but it's a beautiful thing to have here for inspiration.

Funny, I have a custom order for the same thing coming from EGC. I put mine in about two years ago. Let's see who gets theirs first... :p

I had a few nice old 60s coronets, wiltshires and an olympic in here last year which inspired this pair of um ... epiphytes, epilogs, epiphanies ...

the bodies are cut from recycled/remilled douglas fir and huon pine planks.
i contrasted the rustic wood with cherry lacquered necks and rickenbacker style gold-backed guards ( been doing a lot of those lately )

Image

Image

big ol' full-width les paul jr style neck joints ...

Image

Image

i sold one of these ( above ) to a local regular customer who provided the old stock epiphone knobs.
the other is yet to be sold :p fretted or fitted with pickups - it's routed for 90s ( or minihums ) maybe some more like the clear-bobbin P90s from Sentell that i used here ^

the bridges are new gotoh wraparounds - which i'm loving. all in all these are like a lightweight, super resonant LP jr except a bit more slinky ...
the fretboards are slabby padauk which behaves beautifully, adding a bit of stiffness to the neck, rick-style.

Image

a fun break from brushing aluminium chips out of my beard.
