The Jaguar Bottom Master is 28.5" scale and is tuned E-e like a Bass VI. The strings are little bit floppy, but not too bad (I'm not sure which gauge strings are on it at the moment as I haven't changed them since I got it and don't play it all that much.)

well, if you arent using it you could sell it to me...

Actually, LaBella makes a whole bunch of string sets for VI type instruments, including flats. I'll bring my Ultra VI when I come.

Your understanding is correct. Also, with appropriate strings you can use a Bass VI as a baritone (tuned A-A). I wouldn't say that scoring baritone strings is any easier than scoring BVI ones, the market is terrible at the moment. I'd kill for a readily available 15-80 set. If you're going with an EGC get one of those 32"-scale thingies, you can use bass strings on it and have proper tension.

All about tension my man! If you like a lot of tension I'd say go longer (TWSS), but if you like a little bit of slack when you bend strings go shorter. Also depends on your tuning!

I honestly didn't really feel comfortable with .14's on a 28" baritone, it just felt like it was going to snap. But at the same time that bigger scale seemed to NEED that big a gauge

you know, i have no idea what gauge strings are on my baritone. i got it used at guitar center a couple years ago and put new strings on it then. still the same strings.

i do like a little give. i usually play a set of .010" chromes in standard tuning on my normal guitars.

I don't see why you shouldn't. Some manufacturers like D'Addario use the same core and winding for both bass and guitar strings, the only difference is the size of the ball end like I suggested above. With a 32" scale instrument your stringing options are much better, you get increased bass response, better intonation, and most importantly better tension. The tension of the low E on a 30" Bass VI is not to everyone's liking (especially if tune to drop D), and with those extra two inches you can use lighter G, B and E strings for more clarity and definition so you can play open chords with distortion.

i usually play a set of .010" chromes in standard tuning on my normal guitars.

here is a dumb thought.. knowing that flats for guitar are for jazz guitars with a long tailpiece you might want to just measure what a uncut one of your strings is also if you don't NEED a wound G then all you have to worry about is the bottom three stings because you can get unwound singles in almost any gauge.

Never happened to me, but I reckon a drop of hot solder or even superglue should take care of the problem.

Yep. Or you could order a custom set from Circle K, not the cheapest solution, but not the most expensive either. If you go with flats, La Bella is your best bet, those things last forever anyway.

Jason from Bass Strings Online said he's been nagging DR to put out a Bass VI set. As of yesterday, they weren't even aware Fender had reissued the instrument via the Pawn Shop series. Actually, he said every major string company he contacted about Bass VI strings was pretty clueless about the lack of options.

DR showed some interest, hopefully they'll put something out eventually.....
