Duncan TB-5 Custom Humbucker w/ Alnico 8 Mod

Postby themeanreds » Sun Apr 15, 2018 1:52 pm

Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom 8 Humbucker Pickup
Very good condition
This was a stock TB-5 Custom, uncovered, with black bobbins. I replaced the ceramic magnet with an Alnico 8 magnet. There is a lot talk of the Alnico 8 mod for the Custom humbucker over at the Duncan forum, for anyone curious.
I will include the ceramic magnet at buyer's request.

$60/shipped

Someone at a more erudite forum of superior breeding asked for a description of the tone compared to the stock ceramic SH-5, and I thought that I would share my spiel here as well.

Compared to the Custom with its stock ceramic magnet, the pickup with an alnico 8 magnet has a bit more output, and is warmer overall. It has smoother highs, tighter lows, and a slightly stronger midrange presence. The mids are pretty even; it's not a boost in either the low mids or high mids.

In short: it's warmer and more dynamic, and just as aggressive; possibly moreso.
