In the 1990s I shot some footage for a project on 16mm film.
The project turned out okay, but I had lots of "rejected" footage
that didn't "make the cut". But since that shit is expensive, I held
onto the 16mm film with the idea that someday I'd get around to
doing something with it.

Well that someday (and several somenights) came a couple winters ago.
I took out the old footage and I scratched images into the emulsion
of 16mm filmstrip and hand-painted the film with various inks. And
then after procrastinating for a long while, I finally put together this
final soundtrack to accompany the animation.

It looks better if you view it at 1080p resolution.

I've become obsessed with drawing our new president into artwork from albums I treasure (exploring a world where he is present in all pieces of culture, no matter how blasphemous or obscure). Not sure if they're actually funny or just masochistic... Anyway, one can check those out here: http://totheneck.squarespace.com/grotesque-cartoons/ or on https://www.instagram.com/totheneck/

save your image as a .raw file (header 0, Non-interleaved order) then import -> raw data in audacity. (encoding: U-Law, Byte order: No endianness, Channels: 1 mono). apply whatever effects (don't change the length) and export as Other compressed files then open the .raw file again with photoshop or whatever and cha ching - it's databent. some effects work better than others. it breaks down to RGB (you will see 3 identical waves) modifying each segment only affects that color, modify the whole thing at the same time does em all at once
