I found out everyone else in my position was getting paid almost double what I was. So I can't say as money is much of a motivator but inequality is a big demotivator. No pizza parties, either. I never understood what more they wanted from me, or what those more highly-paid people at my position offered that I didn't.
Dude that sucks, having people at different pay scales doing identical work is a terrible idea, we generally give raises based on department, otherwise there are tons of problems.
Regarding the motivation at work thing, I do think money plays a part in helping people focus when things get shitty. Plus, people who aren't worried about how they are going to pay their bills can do better work. Pay at my shop is on the low end of the industry and it's hard to keep people, and good ones usually leave.
Been working here for a long time waiting for a big payoff for time invested and it just never happens, eventually you have a few unproductive hours while you sit at your desk and think "Why do I do this?"
we can't do pizza either because we have to many GF people (most legit btw)
