Definitely endorse switching instruments to get out of a rut. Meaning, I'll write something on keys and then play it on the guitar, or vice versa, and I end up with patterns I'd never fall into naturally on that instrument. Second best is pretending to switch instruments and thinking "play what a horn part might be here," etc.

I have never changed tunings but I am always playing differently. 1) alternate between using a pick and not and 2) shorten or lengthen your strap.
