lmao this dude seriously just used this term

Y'ALL.

Did you just assume my gender?! Actually I used it tongue-in-cheek because that term comes up a lot here and people jokingly refer to people here and themselves as that. Nice try though. I stand by that statement. Anyone who resorts to insults and name calling has no argument.

Seriously, poor form theavondon. At least have the courtesy to PM someone and ask them what their preferred pronouns are before you make assumptions like that. :whateva:

I think this is at least partially true. I think the new outrage culture extends the shelf life of things way beyond what they would be. Example: I probably wouldn't know who that Milo douche was unless people tried to shut his speaking events down and rioting over it. He would have just had his little followers and faded away even quicker than he did.

dubkitty wrote:that was one of the appalling things on the TGP thread, people using "soy boys" seriously.

Is it? Is this really a big insult now? I honestly didn't know "soy boys" was a thing outside of ILF. I thought it was like a goof/inside joke. :idk:

right-wingers like to use it as an implication that people who disagree with them are, erm, insufficiently manly. my reaction, as it was when Trump called out that protester for having long hair, "excuse me, but we're living in the 21st century and that shit was old 50 years ago."

What I heard was because it made the amp sound muffled. Not sure if it’s true though.

So, yes, but.
First there was the Muff Fuzz, Matthews named it a “muff” because in his words it had a “funky, soft, muffled sound”, but, there's also the fact that the Big Muff started life as the Guild Foxey Lady.
Thus, it's quite likely the name was purposefully a double entendre.

It was named Big Muff because of the pussy association. While it is very likely the genesis of the name was inspired by something innocuous like a muffled sounding amp, once they realized the double entendre potential of that name they knew they had a winner. Do we really think they were stupid and didnt know the implication of the name Big Muff?
