There are no eclipse glasses anywhere. I guess libraries are handing them out on the day of, but fuck that. I bet they'd still be out by the time we got there.

We're staying in Solar Town in Madras Oregon. It's just an alfalfa field with some portapotties and 6000 people in tents. We've been slowly moving forward in line to get in for 3 hours. It's awesome.

Ha yeah. We're going to be here for days. It's our end of summer family trip.

Apparently Welding hoods that go up to 12 or 13 are OK.. My company just literally all went outside and there were hundreds of those little 3D type glasses circulating so we all got a peek. I'm in Eastern Washington so it was like 91% full eclipse.. Pretty cool! Makes you feel pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

In other words, if the sky was a pedal you would be flipping it right now.

Nah. It was kinda neat. Not full eclipse here. Weird shadow casting angle.

I was in East TN and when the eclipse reached its peak at 2:33, you couldn't see anything through the glasses. When I took them off, I could see a gorgeous black orb in the sky, with the most beautiful white light I've ever seen dancing and glowing behind it.

Of course I looked away a couple seconds later...but the glasses seemed totally pointless. They were worthless when the actual moment came.

71% obscuration here, and we're about a half hour past maximum. I got on board with this too late to buy anything to watch it with, so I did it old-school by poking a pinhole in a sheet of paper and projecting the image onto a notepad. It worked better than I expected, the image of the Sun appeared as a crescent

.
It sure was amazingly cool, and yes, we are insignificant in the grand scheme. We are nothing more than insignificant little biological organisms swarming around on our insignificant planet orbiting an insignificant star in an insignificant solar system in an insignificant galaxy that is part of an insignificant galactic cluster in what may be an insignificant universe. In the grand scheme, we are as insignificant as amoeba swarming around in a petri dish.

At least we have electric guitars and fuzz pedals to rock our little pieces of the petri dish.
