What was it Nietzsche said? Oh yeah.

"When one does away with oneself one does the most estimable thing possible: one thereby almost deserves to live. . . . Society -- what am I saying! life itself derives more advantage from that than from any sort of 'life' spent in renunciation, green-sickness and other virtues -- one has freed others from having to endure one's sight, one has removed an objection from life."

Nietzsche never said that, but he said this:

"Der Philosoph glaubt, der Wert seiner Philosophie liege im Ganzen, im Bau: die Nachwelt findet ihn im Stein, mit dem er baute und mit dem, von da an, noch oft und besser gebaut wird: also darin, daß jener Bau zerstört werden kann und doch noch als Material Wert hat."

"Ich liebe die, welche nicht zu leben wissen, es sei denn als Untergehende, denn es sind die Hinübergehenden."

RIP Chris Cornell.

We had enough time in our schedule to take a lunch break. Found a nice spot in a parking lot of a park. Turned on the radio while eating, flipped stations until I caught half a statement about "holding our heads high and being thankful for the performance Soundgarden put on last friday" then followed by a Soundgarden song. Something was obviously off. Confirmed the sad news on my mobile internet machine. Told my trainee that Chris Cornell died. "Who?" The fucking guy singing on the radio! Soundgarden?!? Right, only 19, living in his own world. So the radio kept playing Soundgarden songs while we ate. I had a moment to reminisce about what Soundgarden meant to me in the 90s. Great songs, rad riffs, some crazy effects, and that fucking amazing voice. Lunch break is about up so I asked my trainee, sometimes referred to as "Shitbreak" (I have given him 3 different nicknames by now) if he needed to use the porta shitter at the end of the lot before we leave. He said no. I was going to let him walk down there and back, then drive over there myself to piss before we headed out, but unexpectedly he foiled my plans. I still had to pee, so I drove over the the shitter because I wasn't going to walk. He starts to open his door to get out. "What are you doing?" Oh, he decides he better try to go anyway. Yes, "try", like he is 9, not 19. As he gets out his tape measure falls off his hip and hits the ground, he hesitates to grab it because now it is bathroom break time. He hears me shift the transmission to reverse and screams "No, don't do it." I spun the wheel to the right, actually trying to avoid the tape measure that must have fallen on the ground right by my tire. Crunch. Nope, it actually rolled under my van and I directly hit it. He shakes his head, calls me a dick, but hits the portashitter. Now I have a decision to make. Either barricade the shitter door so he can't get out, slam the broken tape measure down the open pipe on top of the porta shitter to make a sploosh in the shit pile, or drive across the parking lot to where we were parked. I choose to make him walk. When he got in I said "I'm gonna break, I'm gonna break your tape measure and ruuuuun." That one was for Mr. Cornell. Oh, and the tape measure survived with some road rash and cracked plastic.

Also, if Wittgenstein says Nietzsche three times into his pillow at night then Nietzsche will appear and ubermensch his asshole.

Outshined coming on while playing Road Rash at my friend Bryan's house in like 4th grade was practically life changing. We rented that game probably a dozen times just to listen to the soundtrack.

That was really great. Thanks for that. As someone that is finally looking into getting medication for anxiety/depression after many years of living with it, that hit close to home.

Sorry for bumping the thread but for whatever reason today it really hit me this morning: I don't think I'll ever see a better singer in the flesh than Chris Cornell.

Prolly not. I saw him solo and with the band...he made the craziest shit look effortless. To think he wanted to play drums in Soundgarden is one of the most narrowly avoided tragedies in 20th century muzik.

You could go to a Daughtry concert, though.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
