Ok but can you be funny and give us the long take?

Is anyone on this site Muslim? Most folks here seem anti any religion.

I'm not, but half my family is. Granted, I've never met most of them.

Boxing day is maybe the best day for food. All the cooking is done, bubble and squeak can be had, there are absolutely 0 expectations for you to do anything and it's generally a good time.
I'm trying, after years of really, really loathing Christmas/this whole season to "get into it" a bit to see if that lulls the suicidal urges and excessive drinking a bit, and it's actually pretty fun. Buying tons of obnoxious Jesus candles and overly tacky decorations, making roast dinners on a daily basis, etc. The Christmas film thread here is proving helpful.

I have to pick a new least favourite and it's currently between Canada day and Family day. Both are pretty cancerous and should be stopped. Bank holidays are still firmly at the top.

I don't know, and I am not clear on why that matters/what you are getting at. I assume there are more Muslims than pilgrims here if that helps.

It's a Muslim holiday... :picard:

How would someone who doesn't celebrate it know how it is. That was my point.

By talking out their ass like everyone does when they don't know about stuff.

Accuracy !

Not Muslim but tried to celebrate Ramadan once, had a ton of Muslim friends growing up so I always wanted to try it.
It's kindof like the anti-thanksgiving, instead of pounding food all day you fast, which was brutal, refrain from sex (I have kids how much doing intercourse can I get into during the day anyway?) and really focus (for me not on being a better muslim) but just focus in general.

I lasted a week, as I recall it was a year when it fell during about a 15 hour daylight time, so I was starving constantly.

The discipline side of it was cool and overall it was a good experiment.
Regarding it's overall ranking as a holiday, I kindof feel like it's apples and oranges.

Long take!

Pros: It's a month long, where you're expected to generally be a good person and give a lot to charity. A month of encouragement towards the betterment of man is probably better than not doing that!

Cons: It's a month long stint where, according to Wikipedia, you have to abstain from smoking, sex, drinking, and eating From Dawn To Dusk (presumably practitioners all head to Mexico to turn into lusty sinfilled vampires inside the Titty Twister after dark). All of this sounds like a lot of work, and is not really "Festive" in terms of heavy drinking and secular celebration, so I can't really rank it alongside the various pseduo-pagan or Hallmark holidays very easily.

Not sure if this is the right thread but I need booze sneaking tips
My parents are non-drinkers - no alcohol in my house types (The hypocrisy of this belief is not lost on me)

Best plan so far is coffee and bourbon in my contigo or to walk the dog and fill my trunk with beer

any other ideas

So, my main grief with the Ramadhan is when children and young adolescents are forced to partake. Not eating right can cause major mood swings and inability to concentrate, memorize and learn properly, so school is rendered useless for some.

How often does that happen? Seem to be exceptions in place for people that can't physically handle fasting.
