Oh man, even though the rest of my car looks like ass, the freshly painted rims really are a big step forward, IMO. One day I'll get an air compressor and paint gun.

Well, it is VA, land of the $10 vanity plate. Hmm...
I'm thinking two tone green and black, flat colors. But waxed or polished if that would make it a teensy bit glossy.
And I'll get a 4AGE engine and combine it and my 7AFE to make the 7AGE. Individual throttle bodies. Vroom vroom.
Or I could do that and leave the paint as-is, make a sleeper car. Hmmmmmmm.

One day.

That's the freaking head I've been waiting to order. That's the engine in the wife's mustang. Our head needs a bunch of work (passing oil through the valve guides, gasket thickness adjust) to the point where I'd rather just wait for one of this heads.

He only has a few cast a year and it's 2k. Missed that article though...thanks Chankgeez! Never expected to see a link to an article about that little, not loved engine.

Article says 500hp...more like 450 tops, but that gets you into the 9s. (There is a falcon called does9s that was the first). The power band is generally geared toward the lower end of the rpms...you ain't reving this engine above 6000-6500 ever. But, it always kinda hovers around 24 mpg no matter what you do to it (outside of forced induction). Its a low end torque engine, not a top end hp.

The head is based on the classic.inlines head, but the dude died and Matt (who is a good dude) bought the stock and is kinda starting from scratch.

https://www.vintageinlines.com/product- ... ad-package

Here's the old head it's based on:
https://fordsix.com/ci/OZ250-2v.html

And the classic inlines:
https://fordsix.com/ci/AlumOverview-2.html

Speaking of the Ford inline 6 200, I got the headers coated. Mailed em away to OKC and they mailed em back.

Changed the spark plugs on The Girl's 1997 Lumina. Like everything else on this car, what should have been quite simple turned into a tragicomedy.
The engine is transverse, with 3 plugs up front and 3 in the back. And they're side-mounted. Between the engine and firewall. All facing different directions.

So what you have to do is unbolt the front 2 engine mounts, hook a ratchet strap onto the engine lifting point and frame, and tilt the entire thing over. Ridiculous. Then, there's just barely enough room to access the rear plugs, although you can only go by feel.
The plugs were toast. I'm guessing that it was the original set, with 150k miles. Starts instantly and runs much smoother now.

I felt a little proud of myself; I didn't get super pissed off, and that's usually par for the course with this car. A couple of years ago this was an intimidating job that I didn't feel ready for, now it's just whatever. I could only curse GM and mutter "why would you do this?" while feeling my way through the job.
Bonus: this is the first thing I've done on this car that didn't require penetrating fluid. Although I did have to use vice grips to get the extremely stuck plug wires off.

I tried to use my phone in video mode as a mirror+light. What I ended up with was something resembling a sloppy, drunken robot sex tape.

That sounds like a huge pain in the ass. My wrenching skills are still at a point that I would've gotten frustrated and given up on that.

I changed the valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and wires on my Golf a few weeks ago and it went really smoothly. The car is running so much better for it now too. And I swapped out my stock front seats (with zero side bolstering) for a set of GTI seats, and I can't believe how much better they are. Makes the car feel so much sportier and fun.
