It turns out that the Grand Marquis's antitheft system thought that I was trying to steal the car and had disabled the fuel pump. I read that an ECU from the police version of the Crown Vic can be swapped in, just plug and play, and doesn't take the anti theft into account. Grabbed one from a junkyard cop car, threw it in and the car fired right up and runs smoothly. Booya.

The check engine light is on and I think I need a new scanner, but for now I'm very happy.

While testing the spark plugs, one of the rubber boots ripped off right on the plug at the very bottom of the plug well. What a fuckin 4 hour nightmare that was. I ended up cutting a metal garden stake to become a scraping tool and had to chop at the rubber, blow it out with a compressor, repeat over and over. Ugh.

This happened about a month ago now, but on the very last day I had my Miata insured for the season, it of course decided to start billowing clouds of white smoke from the engine bay. Was thankfully still close to home, so I nursed it back. Temperature gauge read normal, but it blew out most of the coolant. No sign of oil in the coolant or vice versa, but I strongly suspect the head gasket.

I was planning on letting it sit until the spring anyway, so I'm not going to tackle the work for a couple of months at least. Assuming my initial diagnosis is correct, I plan to do the timing belt and water pump too, along with any gaskets/seals in the area too.

Scored an easy bolt-on horsepower boost at the junkyard.

Hell yeah man, that's like 20 at the wheels. I thought it was going to be a new bumper with a Jegs sticker on it ;)

Yeah, I can't decide between Jegs or Summit Racing but I think I need forged pistons and rods before trying to handle that. This 1.8l is a demon on the streets but it's still not in the same league as something with, like, VTEC.

That's an eaton roots type blower (pretty sure) off 90s buicks, t-birds and a bunch of other v-6. I've got one in the garage. They only run at like 6psi. But $30 junk yard supercharger! Pretty common (posted a falcon with the same one a few pages back).

The pvc is just plumbing to the original air box....all those junk yard, 4 turbos til it explodes dudes use PVC and like vacuum cleaner hose and junk haha.

Love seeing cars like this...like why not? There was a feiro around here that they cut the back off and added the trunk off like a firebird or something and made it into a little truck bed...always liked that one. The tailgate was oak or something too.

In Bakersfield we had a truck with the bed cut off and two hood and windshield sections with two steering wheel. It was always at the mall.

The funny mod all the "tuners" did in Bakersfield was move their AC pump outside of the hood above the engine to make it look like a Paxton supercharger haha. Of course, trumpets on the back and scrapping the ground.

This kid we hired for the summer used a bunch of sink flexes and aquapex from our shop to plumb his air bags. They snapped within like 2 days. He couldn't smog it either because he put in a fancy fuel cell which caused his ECU to report sensor failure.

That's pretty awesome. I had no idea that superchargers were so common in junkyards. Hmmmm...

Well today I locked my keys in the house but I was able to steal my own car and go get the spare using a little drift pin and a pair of pliers

Awesome, kind of.

I did something like that on accident once...only stuck my key in halfway and turned and snapped it off...wrenched it on. It was in my escort. I could always pull the key out while it was running anyway.

I think those wheels are from the McCormick's theme pepper grinder wrap they had before. #influencer #ciroc ( https://youtu.be/JiESl1DYxCk )

It's the crazy Russian guys! They drove a car with wooden pistons once haha.
