Quite a lot of ultra running sort of people don't eat weird specific diets, I don't think that stuff is at all necessary, when you're running 100 miles you just need as many calories as you can find and essential nutrients lol.

Only did a mile today because my hangover headache was so bad  let's hope I can do a better run tomorrow

I started up on the treadmill this week, I don't love it but it's better than what I was doing (Netflix and beer)
2 days in a row feels good

got my cold weather gear out (mask goggles and such) yesterday from summer storage and will probably try an outside run tonight or tomorrow night.
My biggest fear is that I am a night runner and cares give no fudges around here

be safe my dude. Get a headlamp, hi vis clothing, some reflective snap bands or something.

Running outside is good though, treadmills are bad!

(full disclosure I've only ever run on a treadmill for gait analysis when buying new running shoes but I hated it  )

I hate it as well, I may start using it just to get warm and then hit the cold for some real running.

Head lamp is a good idea, I am reflective from head to toe but have been run off the road at least 4 times now.

Plus, as a public service announcement, if you put on your low beams for a car, maybe do it for a human.

I run with a backpack and a down jacket in it. Broke down once in -7 degrees C. The sweat cooled quickly, I cooled quicker and still had 2k home. Longest walk of my life and I was lobster red with cold when I got home.

Treadmills are evil, and not in the academic sense- they are, well, evil. Sometimes a necessary evil (hail, ice), but yeah, running outside is going to be better pretty much every time. Reflective gear, and run against traffic. And always move off the road, esp now with distracted drivers, and c.

For you distance animals- a question: do you have bathrooms worked into your route? Long story short I was pinching a loaf for the better part of an hour and then within 2km of the house it got urgent and I had to take an emergency shit in some poor bastard's backyard (a few trees, not exactly "the woods" haha). Sucked.

So: restaurant? Woods? There are really no good options. Oh, for context I'm in surburb-land, US where finding a public shitter is nearly impossible.

Oh, and a neck gaiter for warmth- best thing I ever bought. Pull down with the wind, up when against.

Bike backwards and you get a reverse delay.

That's why I kept this very old stationary bike that predates me. My Dad got it probably when he was my age. I use it for when I can't run outside / night. It's not a nice machine by any stretch of the imagination but...it was free.

There's a whole science to handling your gut and a long run. Which for me is complicated by carboloading for runs.
My basic approach is toilet before leaving the house.
Don't drink any stuff that I haven't drunk before.
Try and swing by a park or something around 1-2 km in. If my guts are going to get unsettled I'll feel it by then.

I have had to nick into the bushes once or twice though. Not a great feeling haha

Just checking in with everyone. Winter is more or less here. I've shifted some priorities in my fitness regiments so running is not the priority (I'm still doing it but we're talking like 3 miles tops and only a couple times per week; this is typical for me in winter months). Trying to apply more HIT Cardio to my regiments so I try to hit the stationary bike everyday for 20 minutes with roughly a 2 min easy to 1 min HIT per session.

There will be some hill sprints in my future. Probably not today as I want to do 'heavy' singles for squats.

What's everyone else up to?

I just started a new job about two months ago, after about 7 years of freelancing. It's been hard to adjust to the scheduling freedom, but I don't miss the financial instability AT ALL. With that in mind, fitting in runs has been tough... I've found the only time I can really do it is in the morning before work, as I'm too wiped after. Of course weekends, too... but yep, went from doing 3-5 mile runs ever other day to basically a couple of 2 mile early morning runs during the week and maybe one longer one on the weekend. Sorta working so far? Could be better :idk:

I went out today for the first time in a few months. Felt terrible haha. Climate is temperate enough here that I don't have to deal with any of the agonies that you all are talking about. I think i'll be back to feeling good about running in a week or two, assuming I make it out a few times each week haha

Haha yeah I don't have to deal with that here, either. Yesterday I went out with a long sleeve Brooks top on because it was like 50... maybe one day a year I have to wear tights. Usually the only challenge is my sheer lack of athleticism :D

It's so cold and dark here and that's really cutting down my running, as it does every year. :(

I could be better, but it's that much harder to be motivated.

I have another two hours of daylight and I can use a break from work so I'm actually going to do 2.5 miles outside. Wish me luck!
