High five body type brother!

Dude, that beer mile looks brutal.
I'm somewhere between wannado and fuck that haha.

Sub 20... rad. My best is 21.57 and I would like to do sub 20, but keep getting distracted by longer distance stuff. Probably going to sign up for the Stockholm marathon. #idiot

5'9" 150 ain't skinny. Way jealous- you guys are built to run. 6'1" 145 is skinny and I know from experience haha.

Sub 22 is moving, that's a strong 5k, esp if you are primarily doing distance. Thinking about trying a half marathon soon. But then part of me want to get my mile time down. And I'm old, so that doesn't help either.

And yeah, I like beer and I like running, but it's a guarantee that I'd puke!

I don't race anymore but at my best I never broke 19 minutes in a 5k. NO SHOT at getting close to that now

6.5 km run today and because it was insanely nice out today did another 6.5 km walk.

I prefer hiking... but sometime I run too.

I love hiking... running is more like I have to do it to be in good shape for hiking. I have to push myself to do it.

Running is my mood stabilizer but hiking is my preferred method of discourse/meditation/solving all the world's problems . That's when the 'real thinking' happens .

I thought of posting in your thread Syl...I kind of have a diminishing returns / threshold with hiking too (like I do running). Basically, I could hike for hours but...
1. I loathe driving far just hike ("Yeah there's this great trail 2 hours away" "Not happening"). I'm fortunate cause I have lots of woods in town and my Grandparent's house is right on a large national park.
2. I probably have about 5 hours in me max (maybe more idk it's not an endurance thing).
3. Under no circumstances will I camp . More of a day trail guy and I try to keep my backpack small.

Long distance hiking fascinates me. The people who walk the Appalachian trail and across continents. I 'could' physically and mentally do that...but I refuse to camp so...not happening...

Urban Hikes are tons of fun. Walking through all the different parts of your favorite cities in a day in the best.

The absolute best is fell running though. Best of all wolds. :joy:

I love hiking too, particularly with other people, but I often find myself thinking "I could be running right now"

I hit 4 miles on a run last week, trying to slowly ramp up to 5. Ran 3.5 today with a little walk break at the 3 mile mark... could've maybe kept going but felt like I should maybe go a little easy after eating mainly garbage this weekend

But yep, I've found it's the best thing for my mind. Only problem is that I want to go longer distances so I'm having to take a day off between runs to recover—the brain wants it daily!

Don't trust your brain trust your legs. Getting hurt isn't going to help you run further! :)

popvulture wrote:I've run for years but have never gone beyond casual. Usually it's a few days a week, but a mixture of running and walking. I've tried doing the whole thing where you run for a minute, walk for a minute, yada yada and increase the ratio of running day by day until it's all running. Eventually I've always gotten bored with that, so now I'm basically just running as much as I can then walking, then running a bit more. Usually I go about 3 miles, and I can run for the first 1.5 or 2 miles.

Any thoughts on getting better, tho? Would love some tips for increasing my endurance.

^arent we all...

One run won't make you better, but it sure as shit can put you out of commission for days/weeks with an injury.

Ran that 5k in 19:31. Got smoked by some youngsters but that's fine- feelin good.

Did a beer mile back in June at a local brewery. 6 ounces every quarter-mile. It was very difficult to down a beer while breathing heavy from running. I thought I was going to throw up during the last quarter-mile, just had a lot of beer sloshing around in me.

Exercise and alcohol don't go together at all for me, so it went pretty much as as I thought it would, but overall it was a fun event.

Also, running is brutal here in Florida at the moment. Can't wait til it starts to cool off again.

Yeah I've always wanted to do a beer mile since I heard about it but I anticipate it'll go terribly. I already hate sprinting and it makes me feel sick WITHOUT beer. But still.
