RMA Crustacean

I don't know if this is the best introduction to the species, but it's the first non-build to order unit I've had in a long time and since it's on the chopping block I figured I would punch out a thread because in a sense it's long overdue.

In another sense, Crustaceans have been sort of a grey area in relation to effects/fuzz. The modular synth interest notwithstanding, it hasn't seemed really right up to this point. Anyway, here's a noise generator, and in this video I have one modified with an audio input and self oscillation mode:

~3:10 if you want to cut to guitar input.

So, aside from the "malformed" elements, that's a direction I'm veering toward. Though to be honest, as a bypass-able/foot controllable effect there are numerous options I need to consider, many of which would drive up the price or limit functionality, two things I'm trying to avoid. Any way, the standard unit is widely customizable, and if you're interested in such an object I'd love to hear about what would make or break it in your set up.

Just wow and yes! That's amazing, the sort of sounds I've been trying to work out how to build myself! Seems to have about the right proportion of guitar / mangled guitar / noise / sonic decay / hush and wishes to each other. I think a reverb going into it would be very atmospherically charged... also a short broken repetitive delay or sawtooth tremolo for extra fun. I'm impressed. I would say more but I need to chain a bunch of pedals together to make some noises :)

Thanks! Yeah, I'm bending my brain a little bit in terms of optimizing this for a floor as opposed to table top effect. Without spiraling into mayhem, that is...

It's proving challenging. I'll probably just go for it, once the ring mod circuit has been processed.

Agreed, awesome capture lordgalvar!

I've still got the initial build of the 1.4 version guts open for refinement, but I'm hoping to button that up in time for a show tonight. They will, for a time being, be available in two flavors: stompable effects unit or table top drone machine. Here's an outside shot of the stomp build:

The drone synth implementation will infill the foot space with more knobs, and carry additional switches/indicators along the bottom. I plan to trim the case down by about 0.25" per side and maybe a little off the top, this mock up is using an old dirty doper spec shell.

I can say I am getting proper behaviour on a standard 9 volt supply now.
