Røde i-XY: Anyone use one?

Postby HAVN » Sun Mar 08, 2015 10:12 am

Picked one of these up for my iPhone 6 because the price was right and I thought I could use it for demoing noise stuff, capturing some of the street corner preaching I hear around Chicago, and recording my band's rehearsals.

I have a Boss Micro BR that I've never really used much. Drummer has generally recorded our practices with his Tascam DR-40. The reviews of the Røde app aren't great (haven't tried it yet so I'll reserve judgment), but I listened to some demos and the unit sounds promising. Curious to hear how it stacks up against the DR-40.

Anyone use one of these for anything? Impressions?

I've heard interviews using one and I thought it sounded good dry, but I think with some EQ and Compression it would sound better. Has that Rode sound for sure.

I've recorded a bit of our rehearsals with it and it definitely needed compression. So far extremely pleased with the fidelity!

Video I did of my buddies playing their opener on Friday night using the Røde. The sound is unedited here.

Agree, I wish there was more bass. Board mix plus rode would be great.

Took some videos of a cool 90s reunion show last night that turned out quite well. Just waiting for permission of the band before sharing with the world.
