Oh duh. I was reading as if you need to be able to fill ALL of those requirements, but when I read it now, it seems like you must fit ONE of the categories

easy tips

cmd c
cmd v

are what they always are, copy and past
however
cmd d is duplicate, and will duplicate whatever you have highlighted. It'll create it following whatever it is thats highlighted
that includes tracks, clips, effects, everything.

if you're on ableton 9 glue compressor and the new EQ are fucking amazing, play with them a bit

one real shitty thing about ableton is that it doesn't let you sidechain plugins
thankfully the ableton comp is pretty great, and stupidly easy to use

if you did then please please please show me how, cause I as far as I know it's never been an ableton feature and one of the reasons my big producer homies stick to logic/pt

unless we're talking about different things. u totes can dude. peep the "audio to" on track 4. compressor is on track 2. when i play audio on track 4, it affects the gain reduction on the compressor on track 2.

yeah you can do it that way but....well the best example I can think of is fabfilter's pro-c, where you can't even work the sidechain ext in options in live 8 because it doesn't recognize track to plugin routing unless the plugin is on the track itself
drop that badboy into pt and you can route, for example, tracks 1-3 to the comp on track 4
whats going on in your screencap is routing audio to a separate track wit the compressor on it, and not to the compressor itself.
you're right though, I should've mentioned that but had TOTES forgotten about it

have you tried running maschine as a midi controller for itself as a plugin inside of ableton? talk abou frustrating the first few times. I ended up just exporting to wav and so as to avoid the headache

In under an hour and over 2 beers last night I had my new mic and 2i2 out of the box, drivers installed, and RECORDED TOANZ :!!!:
Obviously I have just a beginning of an understanding of what ableton can do, but man...cool, exciting software that seems pretty intuitive and easy to use.
Special low-frequency version.

oh i see what you're saying i think. but still it routes it to only the sidechain element of the compressor. not just the track itself. the input meter on my compressor doesn't move at all, only the gain reduction meter doodles when i pump audio to it from track 4. meaning that the track is routed to the sidechain. the 2nd box under audio to, allows you to route it straight to the sidechain of the plugin (or any other options that your plugin might have).

never used the maschine as a controller, but i could imagine!

I wonder how do we hookup the physical effects (pedals) to ableton? is it through soundcard or what?

echodeluxe: You probably chose wisely, Ableton is really "the easy one". I really recommend you sit down with all the youtube videos you can stomach. The amount of free learning out there is really massive. I prefer Reaper, but although there are a few good tutorials it's nothing compared to Ableton, for noobs. No shame in learning everything the hard way, though. Keep kickin ass!

synthezatory: Yeah, to plug in pedals you need a soundcard. You can use the line in on the inbuilt soundcard on most PCs; it will be noisy but it can be good enough. USB soundcards are cheap as peanuts these days and some of the cheap ones are even quite excellent (Mackie Blackjack, etc...)!

command j is sweet to join tracks together in arrangement view
control click (on mac) also allows you to select multiple clicks (if i'm not mistaken)
