Lemme pick your brain.

Postby TweedBassman » Tue Jun 18, 2013 1:44 pm

In this here thread, I'd like to get some idea of what folks would like to see, and throw some ideas around and see if you'd be interested, and also to see if they already exist.

Up first: I'm thinking about a 'utility' pedal for a pretty common problem. Imagine this: A simple box with 4 jacks, no knobs and a footswitch. It would be an effects loop box, BUT when the loop is off, it would activate a nice, high quality buffer to clean up long cable runs and add sparkle back to your clean tone. When the loop is activated, the buffer will turn OFF so that you can use it with sensitive fuzz pedals that don't like buffers.

eh? :idk:

i lurve a good compressor, but from owning a few and building/tweaking a few, it seems like a compressor is one of those things that's either GOOD or BAD. Like, with delay, reverb, fuzz, etc you may not like a certain tone, but someone else could find a use for it; bad compression is almost unilaterally despised. That's why the classic circuits aren't really fooled with much.

That said i'll probably do a weird compression circuit eventually.

That would be sick.

Heres a few more thing that wouod be interesting to see:
Envelope reverb that swells the harder you play plus optional envelope controlled modulation
A weird delay type effect that "twinkles" like that sound effect production studios use for cartoon stars.

I dont know it those things would be hard to do but its effects ive been thinking about for awhile that nobody makes.

I'd still love to see an envelop controlled expression pedal. Or a delay with an envelop controlled feedback or delay time. If you could pull off a warped record vibrato that is pretty intense... That would be pretty rad.

I've been wanting to do this for a while but have other priorities for now.

The Pocket Watch seems to be a lot of what I've been waiting for!

I'll come back here when I'm feeling more inspired.

I juuuust researched 'record player' type pedals and one came up that was like, the end all be all of all record player simulators. I forget what it was called but it was dead sexay and had like 6 knobs. expensive though.

Envelope stuff is very doable in the future. I had a few (including expression control) on the work bench but they used Vactrols, and those have been a little sketchy lately... expensive, and quality control is suspect. Then the few I had disappeared. I'll look into it and see if they're back to what they were.
