Yeah I want a humbucker guitar but I don't know shit about anything gibson. Dont think I want something super loud but I want something that sounds not fender for a little more heavier stuff. The DiMarzio Pafs are gud nuff, no? They gotta sound good in a guitar with a red paintjob btw. I have a Lundgren s90 which i dig for some more HEVVYYY t0AnZZ which is like a super overwound ceramic strat puppy. idk how much that is to go off but its something I almost only plaay

thats the classic dunkin' right? Or is that Jazz in the neck? Gotta look at more of their pups, the site was down for me last night. The pickups I found used were mostly the super loud kind which I dont know if I want. One was woth alnico 8, didn't know they even went up that high.

I got a dimarzio PAF (7 string version) and it rules so I endorse this. Super late reply, done.

Low-to-mid output pickups are heavier than high output poops, as you can get more usable gain before feedback.

I’m necromancing old threads. I wish I could edit the title of this one. Actual words are cool.
Last year I got a lollar imperial standard wound bridge pickup for my 78 Ibanez artist 2619. This pickup is so sick. It’s balanced and clear across the spectrum in a way I haven’t experienced before. The low end is insane. I can’t believe a pickup makes this big of a difference. It’s huge. The volume is really balanced from high to low. Pick attack is crazy articulate and the dynamics are great. It hits a dirt pedal in a really open and uncompressed way that is so different from higher output pickups. It has really pushed me to be a better player. Any sloppiness, particularly of the picking hand really comes through and I’ve really had to tighten that up, so that’s a definite caveat.
So I’m definitely into lower output fancy pants PAF style humbuckers. It wasn’t cheap. I spent around $120 used for a single pickup, but that’s cheaper than about any pedal I’ve bought recently and the result was incredible. I might try to get a fralin PAF to put in my other old Ibanez artist to compare.

I have a set of the regular wind Imperials in my SG and they sound great but I put a set of the low wind Imperials in my LP Standard and they take all the qualities of the regular winds and just make them better. So articulate and take as much gain as I can throw at it without falling apart. They definitely make me realize my right hand isnt as tight as I thought it was. They've quickly become my favorite pickup ever. I want to swap by BLK TRI torches out in my other LP for the low winds. I have a Custom with the Tim Shaw pickups and they don't sound as good as the Lollars.misterstomach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 1:55 am I’m necromancing old threads. That’s cool to hear about the low winds. I was thinking about trying one in the monson. They say they’re good for thin, light guitars that tend to be darker or muddy. That well describes the monson and it’s never been great with higher output “metal” pickups.conky wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:45 pmI have a set of the regular wind Imperials in my SG and they sound great but I put a set of the low wind Imperials in my LP Standard and they take all the qualities of the regular winds and just make them better. That sounds just like my LP Standard. No matter what pickups I put in it, it is always on the darker side. I have those BLK TRI Torches in it now but so far the best sounding set I had in it were the Duncan Parallel Axis set. Still, it is a higher gain set that doesn't to the lower gain PAF thing.... they just handle fuzz and drive better IMO. If you put one in your Monson I'd be interested in how you like it.misterstomach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 10:47 pm
