No doom lovers anymore?

Ha! Elephant Tree. A friend of ours has seen them some ridiculous number of times (like 30 plus?)

Still unrepentantly love doom here. Blood Farmers are still better than _your band_. More or less reached my saturation point with 'genre' bands as far as active listening but generally if you're a "doom" or a "stoner" band I probably like you even if passively.

I see doom as having a specific sort of melodic sensibility. Think Sabbath etc. Ultimately blues / old school metal derived to a greater or lesser degree.
Sludge is just... sludgy. Not everything that's tuned low and slow is "doom" :idk:

I know this is getting a bit into the realm of subgenres are out of control

IDK Eyehategod is pretty much entirely blues played slowly.

I would posit the difference (which I think is not a thing, for the record. No doom without Sabbath) can be found thusly:
"Does the band sound like they listened to side B of My War"?

That seems fair. So does our band sound like we listened to the B side of My War? I guess not. The system works?

Gone Fishin' doom/slurdge > B-Side of my war doom/slurdge

I like how that elephant tree album has a blackstar right in the center

I just kinda started exploring doom...which is about right for me to get into things after they are no longer hip. I've been getting into the gear that drives doom...I just love destroying my tone and naturally my curiosity has lead me to some of the more talked about stuff. Very open for recommendations. It's a little full circle for me as metal is what got me into music in the first place (when I was hitting puberty in the early 1990's) and then I got into all the other stuff.

It's pretty doomy, but I felt like I was promised tragedy at levels that people wouldn't be able to call it a hoax. While the horror is pretty staggering when you step back and look at it all, at the hyper local level (for me personally), just now is covid a thing that seems to be affecting everyone pretty close to home with most people being or knowing someone currently sick or under quarantine for exposure. I do feel that things are starting to turn to the levels we were promised in the beginning. Doom seems pretty appropriate to listen to and it definitely connects with me. I enjoy it w headphones as I fall asleep or when I am hyper focused on a task. I've been listening to all the basics that pop up on a Doom playlist. I'd love a few singular recommendations to check out if people are still into talking about this stuff. Otherwise, I'll keep exploring what the internet tells me I gotta hear.

(i forgot my password and for some reason couldn't find the reset password link because it's been a very long year, as i'm sure you all also have been aware)

I've been all over the map on music this year. But I liked the new ERR/Thou and Pallbearer quite a bit, of course and listen to the ol' standbys.

Been doomin' since '08 when I bought my first few staple records of the genre and let it consume me hahaha then took a 5 year or so break from said dooming for other musical pastures. Got back into it all recently and trying to catch up a little on what I missed lol
