Hello guys,
I have a really nice Gibson SG, and I want to tune it down to C std and drop B. I've heard about everything and it's opposite, and I'm confused now.
What string gauge shall I use for this setup ? I love to play with the Daddario EXL158 for my Epi LP tuned in B std and drop A.
Thanks for your answers and sorry for my crappy english !

If the string tension is great with the Epi and you like that string brand, going down one step in string l thickness should be fine for the SG; also won't you be droptuning the SG down to B sharp/A flat? B standard tuning and C standard tuning are only a half step apart.

I tune to C standard and use XL158s on my 26.5" baritone, and EJ22s (13-56 with wound 3rd) on my Hagstrom. I've wondered about putting the XL158s on my regular guitar as well. One thing I know is that I'll never go back to an unwound third string for C-standard. It just sounds so much heavier and crunchier with the wound 3rd, and I have no trouble bending it.

I use the same baritone set on my Gibson Vs tuned to drop d down 2 steps. Love the feel of that gauge.

Another EJ22 fan here (13-56 w a wound 3rd).

What tuning do you typically use?

d’addario jazz mediums at the VERY least. i used to put those on an sg i had but i only could get as low as c standard before the strings got too low tension for me.

I'm digging this set, never seen it before. I'm curious what they mean by
designed for today's modern, shorter scale electric baritone guitars.
Think they'll fit my 27.7" scale bari?

What is your Hagstrom's scale ? 24.75" ? The EJ22 seem to be a good option though.

That's a good question, I didn't realise they are only a half step apart.
Also, I've just seen these strings

When I was visiting the Daddario website, another question came to my mind : did you ever use some flat wound strings ? Flat wounds are recommended for jazz etc. but with the warm sound, it can be cool for doom, no ?

I use NYXL 13 set tuned to B standard, but I like playing with cheese cutters for strings. Nice and tight, stay dangerous.

I tune to drop c and use either ej22's or (just put these on my Les Paul jr/special) EB 11-54's. No wound g on those so the jury is out til I play em for a bit.
