Heads on cabs or on the floor?

Heads on cabs or on the floor?

What's people's feelings on this. I've started putting mine on the floor always as I've broken a few dude to vibrations. All my amps are over 40 years old though.

I am pro this for older amps, man.

My AOR benefits from being off the cab.

Mine rests on my cab but I don't play at nearly the volume that I used to

On the cab. If I was using my much older heads in a live setting I might be prone to sit them on the floor. But if I do so at my place now, I'll kick in all the knobs/step on shit and break it.

funny note I did laugh when a guy I know had a emperor full stack and a matamp green... you know with the wood bottom runner strips as legs.... yea I lolled and lolled when he told me he vibrated it right on to the floor not thinking wood on wood is a terrible idea with heavy distorted tunings.

I physically grimaced reading that.
The visualisation was awful.

How did the Matamp fare?

Goddamn. Brace your cabs people. All that energy is just wasted making your cab vibrate instead of making more loudness.

I've never have before, but I know it had been done.

the matamp had to go spend a month at the tech to be repaired. I laughed at him.

no I didn't loan him shit to play on either.

it's probably a better idea to put them on the floor, particularly with full stacks. the amp is safer from falling hazards and ostensibly subject to less vibrations that can damage the tubes over time or whatever. however, i almost always put mine on top of the amp 'cause:

a) it just looks awesome and i'm a shallow fucking idiot.

b) we're usually playing on small cramped dark stages and it's MUCH easier to see and reach my amp on top of the cabs if i need to adjust anything or see if something's wrong. and sometimes there's not really room on the floor.

mostly b, but i won't deny that there's a little bit of a going on.

I love the look of my Hellhawk stacked on my V-4 stacked on its flight case next to my 6x12 (2x12 + 4x12). Protects the amps and I'm stylin'. But I definitely do it to protect the amps from falls and vibrations.

Yea to me the look is there. it's not the same if it's sitting on the ground. I don't care who or what the band is, just doesn't look as powerful to me. unless the cabs are stacked 3 high.

shit even then I have a 3 cab high stack with 2 heads on top of it. I have to turn shit on with a stick. I've already came to the notion this is how I'll die.

Funny enough for guitar I just have the head on the cab, it's only for bass I leave em on the ground.
