Doom combined bass and guitar amp

Doom combined bass and guitar amp

Postby herrlogi » Tue Aug 04, 2015 10:19 pm

Greetings everyone.
Our band is heading out of the practise cellar and into smaller venue's for the occasional show.
In the band I am bass player but I also would like a do a psychedelic side project as guitarist.
Now so far i've been using a 300 watt ashdown evo III solid state bass amp from one of the other band members
But id like to get my own band practise and performance gear.
Preferably I would like to be able to use the same amp for both bass and regular guitar
Couple of questions:
Would the Orange Terror Bass 500 output enough to melt paint and faces in a small venue? or deff 1000watt needed?
Further down the road I would like to goto a all tube amp.
Step one: Ampeg V4B or Fender bassman 100 and same questions is this enough for a small venue?

Endgame: Verellen Meatsmoke long term plan or would the Verellen Loucks 100watt be sufficient?

And to finish it up recommendations to what type of speakers? would 8x10 be usable for both guitar and bass? or is a 4x10 going to be enough or even a 4x12?
All input kindly appreciated!

This question is really contingent on how much PA support you expect to see at the average show.
good deals are here.
escapecraft is here.

What kind of amps & cabs does the rest of the band use?

Orange Bass Terror 500 is definitely enough to melt faces without PA support at a 100-200 capacity venue with 2 4x10 cabs. Enough with a single 4x10 with a half stack band. About the same general volume-headroom as the Ashdown you're using. Bassman 100 is more proven w/ guitar and bass dual use.

Thanks for the info so far.
Rest of the band uses 4x10's though i dont know the future psych bands layout.
Volume wise is the bassman 100 like the 500 watt terror bass?
I like dirty though im running the Greenhouse effects Sludge hammer now with great results.

PA support for real small locations not there. So it doesnt need the power for a stadium but does need to bring the melting for a small venue

I've been on that tip for a while now. I use a GK something or other... like, a lot of fucking watts solid state bass head, usually into one or two Dominion 4x10 cabs. I also have some 1x15" cabs to swap in or out, but in general I would favor the bass side of things. A guitar might sound "too bassy" or otherwise wonky with your bass settings, but you can dial that in. But a bass will always sound shit through a traditional "guitar amp" and setup.
