I really want a Science Mother, but I can't justify that $2100 price tag. So I'm on the hunt for a 200 watter that's not gonna kill my wallet. Possible? Suggestions?

Relevant.
I'd like an old sound city or something that was designed for guitar or bass on the cheap.

I know. Been looking high and low for a SC 200 Plus.

Are you using it for guitar or bass?

Bass, but I occasionally run it through a 215 with guitar speakers.

Peavey VB2 would be a good choice, slam it with pedals on the clean channel. Also, aforementioned Sound City's, Traynor YBA200? Sunn 2000s if you can find one for cheap.

For non-vintage amps, bet the 2nd version of the 350 watt tube, Koch-made, Eden World Tour would be sick on guitar. You can find them for under 1k.
Friend of a friend has a 225 watt Trace Elliot that sounds sick for live metal bass. Don't know the model though. Crate made a 225 watt tube amp. Marshall made a huge tube bass head a couple years ago.
Plenty of tube pre- + huge solid state power section bass amps that would work awesome too. Sunn, Fender, Mesa-Boogie, & Orange would top my list of those.

Crate Blue Voodoo 300, obv.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CRATE-BV300H-30 ... 0858642138You could try to track down a Peavey Classic 400. Which seems to be rare as all hell to find.
