Bassman for doom?

Mon Mar 24, 2014 3:28 am

Has anyone ever tried a blackface Bassman for doom/sludge/drone?
I'm looking for a clean amp as a platform for pedals (Pharoah/Megalith/Musket). Would the Bassman be too bright or lack low end? tone-wise, i'm trying for the usual suspects (Dopesmoker, Lysol, Earth 2, Dopesick)

thanks!

I use the "bassman" input of a Mig 50.
Clean as a whistle. Loud as fuck.
Tons of low end....too much for some.
Go for it!

I can't say I've tried a Bassman specifically for Doom, but I don't think you'll have a problem.

Bassman + 2x15 cab = sounds like Doom to me

bassman preamp > ultra linear power amp = Sunn Model T

It'll do fine. :thumb:

Yep! It'll be okay. I use a Fender PA100 for clean loud pedal dooooom and it works wonders

with a baritone i wanted more articulate bass response, it could fart out, but i got gobs of it :snax:. Playing guitar it doesn't matter as much, SG+Pharaoh into the bass channel on my BF is tits

Bassman rules. Great pedal platform and sounds awesome. They're great for heavy music. Darren plays one and he's got golden ears.

D uses one with pretty fantastic results.

It'll do fine. :thumb:

Wait. So the 'undesirable' UL Bassman amps are essentially Model Ts?

Essentially yes, the other difference is the power tubes. I believe the bassmans do not use 6550's like the Model T's do. Other then that... yeah pretty much the same. :thumb:
