Re: Any solid state love?

Has anyone tried a VH-140C or SS-150 with bass? I've had a peavey musician, a Sunn concert bass, and I've messed with a beta lead, solid state distortion is just so gnarly.

It distorts up like a guitar. but as in using it to play in a live situation. it'll be swallowed up by the other guitarists. there will be a huge lack of low end. But I never tried it with the gain on a lower setting

There isn't a guitarist, I'm playing bass vi as the only stringed instrument in a hardcore band. I'm using a V4 and a YBA-1 right now

It will fill the midrange more. so try it if you have one around to try

If i could recommend any solid state amp for guitar or bass it would an Acoustic 370. Massive low end, takes pedals like a champion, and the louder you play the better it gets. Before i switched to tube heads i used Sunn Concert Bass heads and well as the Beta heads...in my opinion the 370 blew them all away. They used to be pretty easy to get but i think people have started to catch on to how much arse these things kick so they might be hard to find or a little on the expensive side. But if solid state is your thing, buy one today!!! :thumb:

Yeah, Acoustic, man those are tight. We had a 220 with a 402 cab at our space for like a year, until some idiot blew it by abusing the knobs to make noise. Why? My blood still boils when I think about it. But that sounded so massive with both guitar and bass. Hopefully we'll find another like that eventually, but they don't pop up so often here.

Now, at our jams, I sometimes play bass through a not-so-great (also DI'd) Trace Elliot combo and an HH IC-100, which has a good amount of low end plus that SS top grind. There's also a Peavey TKO 80 there, mostly use that for guitar/drones though.

Honestly, I don't care so much about whether it's tube or solid state, as long as I can use my pedals into two amps and they're both loud enough.

If all goes well, I'll finally have a CR120H by week's end!

So how do you like the head? It's pretty exceptional and I'm seriously considering purchasing the 60 watt combo ...
