Hell you don't need bass gear to run in drop A. we all can pretty much can tell you that since we all play that low or lower.

I can't get my phrasing right, I already run it in drop A. But the more I hang around this forum the lower I want to go...

Off-topic but damn, I checked your cab building out and that shit is impressive! Instantly took a high place on my dream rig list

I would love this post to be about how good the Yamaha B100 is. I truly would.

However. It seems like it doesn't work. Maybe it worked when I received it, and I fucked it up.

First, basic info about myself:

1) I think I am a decent DIYer and an alright solderer

2) I absolutely suck att doing things with my hands. And my soldering skills are terrible.

The 1x15 cab I bought yesterday did not have any speaker ins, and it soldering some small cable ends to a jack is easy as pie. However, I decided to use the full length of the BIG ASS speaker wire and add a 1/4 male connector. I bought som connectors and started soldering it up, and let me tell you, this was some picky shit. The speaker wire was enormous, and the jack were to small for the cable. I know i probably shouldn't have forced it, but I did. The first time some sound came out of the speaker from the head, but the volume was very low and after 30 secs it died out. I opened the connector and found that the hot wires connection had broken. After quite some time I soldered a jack to the speaker successfully. It works with other amps but not with the new one. I'm guessing I fucked the amp up. I just wonder now what to do. Does anyone know if this is an easy/inexpensive fix? I don't think I'm gonna trust my DIY skills unless it's super easy.

Some other info:
The cab is tested for 8 ohms.

The outputs on the amp says: 1 or 2 = 4 to 8 ohms, 1 + 2 = 8 to 16 ohms.

Atleast it looks good

You might have killed it :( cause soon as that wire broke it was basically reading as 0 ohms.

I thought that wasn't such a big deal with solid state amps? I dunno though. I haven't owned one in years.

I'm pretty sure this is true. Solid state amps don't have to see a load from what I understand.

EDIT: And no, I'm sure it's not fucked for life.

It's not quite as bad as I might of made it out to be. But yes the solid state amps need to see a load just like tube amps. Just because it's lacking tubes doesn't mean it has completely different set of requirements. All the basics are the same. Throw on any SS just as a tube with no load and it's going to get fucked up.

Now I know more of the more modern ones there are some that will be fine but I don't have any modern ones.

I think generally SS amps can handle load mismatch a bit more, but as SLK said, I wouldn't put all my faith in that shit.

I found that out the hard way/almost blew up one of the newer Acoustic 200H's that I had a few years ago because some speakers in a free 4x10 that I got blew out and the ohms got screwed up. My signal kept going in and out mid-set and I didn't know what was wrong at the time so I just kept slamming the stack down on the ground to get it to come back on. After the set was over I went to pick the head up and it was like burn-your-hand hot because of the mismatch

I know they don't like that load mismatch. my friend burnt up 3 ampeg bass heads doing this stupidity.
