DIY SS Tape Echo

Hahaha, I guess you have the stuff needed to start planning out how that would need to work. Doing a quick search there seemed to be a few places to buy replacement parts at least that you could scrounge from. Might be cheaper to buy up old machines and salvage though. What kind of tape were you looking at? Looking at the fulltone one, some old videos of the echoplex you would only need a small single track tape since the levels won't be too outrageous and you are only doing the delay signal. No need for 2 inch. Just maybe 1/8" inch or so?

yea thin tape, does not need to be that wide. Likely first I would resolve the electrical circuit so I can understand how that works then move to the mechanical side. Honestly some help in that department is needed. Its not my fortay

I can give what help I can. I'm not trained, moved away from the mechanical engineering degree, but I can figure shit out (hopefully.) It would be a neat project to help out on. What were you thinking for motor? Also, I have to go to work so I will probably be gone for most of the day after this post.

So a few years ago I bought a veritable BOATLOAD of parts at an estate sale. The guy was a home/car stereo repair tech. Just about two weeks ago I tossed out DOZENS of heads and related gadgetry. Fuck.

This sounds like a very rad idea. I sometimes find myself spending way too much time on ebay looking at RE201s and thinking about how rad it would be to have a sweet ass tape echo.

Doesn't Fulltone make a current production tape echo?

You might look into where they're getting their tapes from.
good deals are here.

I do know that they were being made the last time I checked into them (2010?), but of course it's hard to tell.

Possibly worth emailing their people?

Looks like you could make a lo-fi system by jackin a reel to reel, adding 1 head and combing that with a mixer
