(Someone please correct me if I’m wrong here because I’m still learning too.)

So if you record a sample and all parameters are reset, it should play back just as you recorded it on N1. N2/N3 should be silent unless you turn up the gain. So switch to N2 and turn up the gain and change the pitch to an octave up. Now you have N1 playing the original sample and N2 playing it an octave up. Hold UNI and click FBK twice and N2 should be silent and N1 will still be playing as it was before.

If you want to record another loop entirely, bypass the pedal with the right footswitch and record another sample by pressing the left footswitch which should wipe out the first.

Writing this at work without the pedal in front of me so I apologize in advance for any potential misinformation!

^this is all correct

Also at work and going off memory, but this sounds right.

there is no explicit "clear" for the audio because you just record a new loop and the old one is gone over written. Unless as many people pointed out fbk is on, then what is playing and what you record get recorded.

in all 3 Record modes (FREE R=B AREC) you can start and stop playback with the right footswitch. To start and stop recording you use the left footswitch. In R=B mode playback starts automatically when you finish recording (this mode is meant to be closest to a conventional looper, and for this reason playback starts automatically as soon as you stop recording/the tempo is set to be the recordings length etc.)

also yes to reset the parameter to default hold the stride/abs/uni switch in the uni position (towards the footswitches) and then push the fade/gain/fbk switch down twice quickly and all the parameters reset to power on default. it does not clear the audio. if you want to clear the audio just stop playback (right footswitch) then record something new (left footswitch).

if you feel your device is not working properly please send a clear video with commentary to mtl.asm@gmail.com and i will be able to help you better.

all parameter sets N1/N2/N3 work off the same base audio loop. you can record up to 20 seconds, then each note provides a separate set of controls to manipulate the same loop. I am not sure if that is what you are asking but yes n1/n2/n3 all edit the same recorded audio but you should have 3 versions of it available etc.

Last of the night's experiments with the 856: http://clyp.it/pqdfvya5

This isn't particularly artful, but it helped me get a sense of what I can do with this as an instrument. This started with just one note sampled in, then I sort of created rhythm beds in N2 + N3, then came back and rode the pitch knob in N1... I was trying to torque it to get a "string bend" kind of effect.

The expression pedal
It's easy to use an expression pedal with the 856. Simply plug one into the 1/4 inch jack closest to the DC jack. Then to choose what knob to control with the expression pedal, simply hold down the FBK switch while turning the knob you want to control. After you let go of FBK, the expression pedal should now control that knob.

This may be timely in conjunction with the expression pedal discussion above... would definitely be cool to widdle-wibble with PITCH on an expression pedal.

For the right kind of sample, exploring back + forth on POS would be pretty cool too.

Yeah, I just set mine for POS. I may try pitch as well.

My Pocket Miku arrived today, so into a terrifying new rabbit hole.

This is just Miku into the 856, plus a loop pedal after (that is just singing a half-speed, reversed loop in the background throughout).

Had some pleasing ambient moments with the Zellersasn last night... pumping the output into a cheap reverb cranked all the way up gave some nice vibes.

Not much happens in this long clip, but you can hear the sounds shifting if you pay a bit of attention... there was a lot of: wait for the BEAT light, turn a knob a tiny bit, wait for the BEAT light again, turn the knob a little more and on and on, trying to catch the tiny changes (and occasionally sudden big changes).

I had a quick play with a friend's 856. Am I correct in thinking that there's no wet / dry mix, or any other way to kill dry?
