I done up and made myself a guitar.

I done up and made myself a guitar.

So, my friend Shane and I get bored very easily, and Shane has a garage filled with power tools, so we decided to build a guitar. We both really love Telecasters, and we have odd senses of humor, so we set out on building something equally odd.

We started by making a body blank out of Alder, and, by tracing my friend's Squier Tele, we thus had what resembled a telecaster.

Then, we decided, because this project seemed too easy and straight-forward, to make it a semi-hollow. After routing out two huge cavities in the back(to later be covered by a sheet of painted ply), we routed out a "f hole", except, instead of using some script-y font, we used Times New Roman. At this point, we decided to name the guitar the "Sarcaster".

We eventually decided on a paint, and drove on down to the auto paint mixing place. We got a kick out of seeing the label, and it not saying "Cadillac".

Being lazy, we decided to use one mini-humbucker.

The first coat of color went on looking pretty drab...

But, by it's completion, it definitely looked juuuust right.

Here's some far better pictures of the final product. All I can really say is that it's so damn amazing. It needs a new strap, or else it looks like the epitome of a ska guitar. That was the only one lying around my house.

Now all you need is a pickguard and you're all set to go! That's a rad build, and I especially like the true f-hole.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

We wanted to do a pickguard, but again, keeping it simple. And, stupid. (read:lazy)

Thanks. We laughed for a good hour when we were done routing the "f" hole.

Where the neck come from and why didn't you glue the back on, instead of using screws? I really REALLY like the times new roman "f" hole... what a great idea!

I think it's time I updated my guitar building thread. :whateva:

So I'll send you a new strap if you would you consider making me one :thumb:

For real though, I'm interested.

Thanks guys! I'm honored, really. All the compliments are just great. The neck was an inexpensive Eden paddle headstock neck off of eBay, and we used screws simply because it was easier, and also so we could easily access the control cavity. We still have some alder left (we bought a tooooon), and, if you PM me, something could be possibly worked out. Shane, the guy I built this with, never likes to not have a project on his hands.

wow, fun stuff, great job, i love this stuff and wish i had real woodworking abilities (i once attempted to build a simple note pad holder in shop class in middle school and was sanding a tiny part with a giant belt sanding machine and the part slipped out of my hands and nailed the shop teacher right in the butthole.... seriously, the butthole) so i stick with electronics....

good choice of a minihumbucker in the bridge, where'd it come from?

and yeah, elbandito, you gotta post your work here too, this isn't just PEDAL DIY for crying out loud.... who here knows how to make pie???? i want to see THIS in the DIY too....
